Captain Jack Dead At 43

Franky Gee (born in Cuba as Francisco Guiterrez), aka Captain Jack, died from a brain hemmorhage yesterday in Spain. Franky moved to Miami as a kid, then joined the U.S. Army. He got into music while stationed in Germany in the '80s.

Chances are, if you've got a collection of '90s Eurodance compilations, Captain Jack's got a song or two on them. The one I remember most is the song "Captain Jack," as it's on the Super Dance Hits Megamix '96 compilation I got in fall of 1996, my senior year of college. I wasn't really ever crazy about the barking-military-orders style of the vocals, but the music was always top-notch Europop.

Here's what the Eurodance Encyclopedia reports:

On the 17th of October, Franky collapsed on monday at a party in Palma de Mallorca. He was taken to the hospital with the suspicion of stroke. He already had one 3 years before. In the night to friday 21st October, he fell into eternal sleep without ever regaining his consciousness, according to his ex-wife Daniela Schaefer.
