Young Divas Turn To The Hit Factory
This past May, Australian quartet Young Divas had a big hit in their home country with a cover of the Stock/Aitken/Waterman-produced Donna Summer classic, "This Time I Know It's For Real." It turns out their next single is yet another remake of a well-known SAW pop song -- "Happenin' All Over Again" by Lonnie Gordon. Lonnie's version originally charted at UK #4 back in January 1990. You can hear a clip of the Young Divas' cover here, courtesy of a thread at the Hit Factory Forum. And here is the video for the 1990 version of "Happenin' All Over Again"...
...though I much prefer the 1993 update, from Lonnie's Bad Mood album, which you can download from U.S. iTunes. Rumor has it, according to a post at the Forum, that the Young Divas also recorded versions of two additional SAW tunes -- Sonia's "You'll Never Stop Me Loving You" and "Say I'm Your Number One" by Princess -- to appear on their debut album, out next month in Australia.
Check out Young Divas' official site for more info, or Mobius' site for all SAW news.
Labels: Lonnie Gordon, Stock Aitken Waterman, Young Divas

Damn is that a cheap video! And was the umbrella really needed? Still that's probably my all time favorite SAW song, I15 years later and I've yet to get tired of that layered vocal arrangement even through the song's three releases (well three is you count the non-SAW produced version Lonnie did in the late 90s). Really gorgeous. The Young Divas version sounds cute, I'll be interested to hear the full version.

I even liked Tracy Shaw's (Stock/Aitken-produced) 1998 version... well, the music, at least. Good memories of Christmas 1998 with that one...

oh that's right! I forgot all about that, it was "aiiight" (as we say in "da hood"). I actually liked her re-work of "Ridin' High" better.
Wasn't Tracy Shaw off "Coronation Street"? I seem to recall some rumour about her and Darren Day covering "Especially For You" I think? Or was that Kavana and Louise out of Eternal? goodness, so many flop-stars, so little time.

i could tell you a very sordid story involving dazpants and i and this song. But i won't - it wouldn't be appropriate :)

Do tell, Paul. :-)
Gosh, I was really surprised when I saw Lonnie's vid for the first time, because of the facial expressions Lonnie has in this video. Her dancing style is also quite unique...
Note that the male dancer is Venol John, who has been Kylie's dancer for years.
I loathed that Tracy Shaw version with a passion. It took all the life and energy out of the original version. I know it was aimed to be a Dannii soundalike of "All I Wanna Do", but I just didn't get it. I also prefer Serena's version of Ridin' High.
Looking forward to hearing the full version of the new Young Divas single.

Didn't know that about the dancer in the vid... but yeah, Tracy's "Ridin' High" was a great version, since it had a bit more lyrics and a reworked bit from Serena's (though I still love that one, too).
Pablo, does your story have something to do with, uh, stamina? Because I've chalked you up to being pretty much a ho...

Thank goodness Lonnie got some stylists after this video, if only to spare her self esteem.

Lonnie, I have two words for thee: indoor umbrellas. Never a good idea.
