The Killers And Sarah McLachlan Christmas Up The Singles Chart

Who needs radio airplay when you can impact consumers at an even better medium during the busy holiday season -- stores! Over the weekend, while Christmas shopping, I heard Sarah McLachlan's surprise hit album Wintersongs being played in Nordstrom, Starbucks and Borders, all within one day. This week sees her standout track from the set, "River," debut on Billboard's Hot 100 Singles chart at #78.

The Killers also enter the chart this week with a holiday-themed tune. The semi-charity (some proceeds go to the RED Campaign) "A Great Big Sled" debuts at #54. The rest of the Hot 100 is a bit of a snooze, with the exception of Nelly Furtado going Top 10 with "Say It Right" (moving from #12 to #6). The really interesting activity happened on the Top 200 Albums chart. Last week, rock act Incubus entered at #1 with Light Grenades, but this week they make a historic drop to #37.

And finally, Gwen Stefani was beat to #1 on the album chart by both Ciara and Eminem's mixed album featuring a slew of guest stars.

The U.S. Top 10:

1. "Irreplaceable" - Beyoncé *2 weeks* *airplay gainer*
2. "I Wanna Love You" - Akon feat. Snoop Dogg
3. "Fergalicious" - Fergie
4. "Smack That" - Akon feat. Eminem
5. "My Love" - Justin Timberlake feat. T.I.
6. "Say It Right" - Nelly Furtado
7. "Wind It Up" - Gwen Stefani
8. "We Fly High" - Jim Jones
9. "How To Save A Life" - The Fray
10. "Shortie Like Mine" - Bow Wow feat. Christ Brown & Johnta Austin

Christmas Schmistmas. The PSBs are remixing the Killers!

    Quote:

et Shop Boys are in their studio remixing "Read My Mind", the forthcoming third single from The Killers' "Sam's Town" album. The single is expected to be released early next year. Neil and Chris both went to see The Killers in concert at Brixton Academy at the end of November which is when the remix was originally discussed.

Neil and Chris have also remixed a song for "Little Britain" which will be released as a download early in 2007. The song, "I'm Gay (Get Over It)", was originally written as the finale of their live show by Matt Lucas and David Walliams with film composer David Arnold and is sung by the character Dafyd, "the only gay in the village". Pet Shop Boys' mix is more "pop" than the original.

Pet Shop Boys last remix to be released was "Sorry" by Madonna which reached number one in the UK charts in February.
