Billie Piper's Gonna Party Like It's 1999

Talk about chart rigging! U.K. Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles played Billie Piper's former #3 hit "Honey To The Bee" Tuesday morning, encouraging listeners to download it and take advantage of the new chart rules...

...since any old song can now be eligible for becoming a hit again thanks to download availability, Billie's "Honey To The Bee" entered the official U.K. singles chart at #17 this week, eight years after it's original release. But mark D'luv's words, this is just the beginning of these types of stunts.

Elsewhere, last week's #3 and #4 singles, by Mika and Just Jack respectively, charge up to #1 and #2. And with rockers The View at #3 with "Same Jeans," the top three positions perfectly match the top three downloads from U.K. iTunes. Meanwhile, with no physical single in sight, The Fray's monumentally whiny "How To Save A Life" debuted at #29 off downloads.

With any luck, that'll be that, and England will steer clear of those mind-numbingly dull bastards.

The U.K. Top 10:

1. "Grace Kelly" - MIKA *1 week*
2. "Starz In Their Eyes" - Just Jack
3. "Same Jeans" - The View
4. "Too Little, Too Late" - JoJo
5. "Proper Education" - Eric Prydz vs. Floyd
6. "A Moment Like This" - Leona Lewis
7. "I Luv U" - Ordinary Boys
8. "Patience" - Take That
9. "Calm Down Dearest" - Jamie T
10. "Boogie 2Nite" - Booty Luv

I quite like the fact Billie's back in the chart. It's a great pop song. But if the most listened to radio show in the country can only get a song to #17, I don't think there's much hope for other chart rigging attempts.

Disappointed Just Jack didn't make it to #1. I really don't get Mika at all.

i hate chris moyles and while this is one of the only Billie tracks i could stand off the debut album (LOVED the sophomore set) my loathing of Chris meant i couldn't support it. Yay for the top three though and take that still hanging around. But Amy Winehouse still number one album? Why god why!

I hate chris moyles. I love this song though. I bought it last night thanks to Itunes. I do prefer the Play cover of this song. Very glad about Mika!

Seems that my supposition that the labels had to release it as a standalone track was wrong - even though I'm sure I read this in the original blurb about the 'new' charts. If these stunts carry on, expect a slew of new rules to prevent such shenanigans..

Still, "Honey to the Bee" is a great track. I always wondered why it languished on Billie's debut album after Innocent had it remixed..

Can we get "On the Bible" back in the charts between us? C'mon y'all, spend your 79p!

That's not that bad a chart! Well, except for the Fray entry, but still...and I don't even mind Just Jack's criticism of reality TV shows--still like the song; I'm glad Mika got the #1 spot, though.

Mika annoys me, Chris Moyles annoys me, The View annoys me, and the thought of retro re-entries annoys me.

Glad Amy Winehouse is still the number one album though. :)

Richard, Amy Winehouse severely annoys me. As for MIKA, or Mika, he kind of annoyed me, but then I got a promo of his album and it's kind of a grower. Still haven't come to a conclusion on it yet.

Mr. Brady, we could if your iTunes would make Deuce available! When are those four tarts gonna stage a reunion? That's the comeback I wanna see... forget Five or Spice Girls....
