Jason Donovan: There Are Never Too Many Broken Hearts For A 2007 Update

God, I used to think Jason Donovan was such a hottie...

Er, "used to" being the operative words...

Okay, that's better. Anyway, our pal Mobius, the hottest Austrian since Christopher Plummer, regularly posts updates on all things Stock Aitken Waterman, including what's going on with the various artists SAW worked with over the years (though he seems to have missed this classy story). He recently mentioned how this year will see an updated version of Jason's most well-known song, 1989's "Too Many Broken Hearts," get a release.

In case you forget how the original goes:

Wonder if he was really playing that guitar...? The first time I saw that video was back in February of 1989, when I was a wee lad of 14. MTV used to actually play music then, kids, and they had a show called MTV's Top 20 Video Countdown. Every week, they'd set a few minutes aside for some Limey named Ray Cokes to come on our American TV sets and countdown the British Top 10, and they'd always play a clip of the #1 single's video. And -- you guessed it -- that one particular week it was "Too Many Broken Hearts."

But it wasn't till 1995, when I found this thing they call a cassette tape of Jason's Ten Good Reasons album in a downtown Pittsburgh record store, that I finally had the song in my own music collection. About three years after that, I paid $40 for an import of the same album at another used record store.

Anyway, Jason just got done whoring himself out on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! in the U.K., starring alongside Liza Minelli's former punching bag, David Gest. He's got a MySpace page, where it shows he's doing a pretty extensive tour of England and Ireland this year. There are also some snoozy new tunes by him on there. (Longtime readers may recall when J'ason flew to see Jason perform at G-A-Y in London in November of '05 -- and took pictures!)

There's no official word yet on who's producing or mixing the retooled version of "Too Many Broken Hearts," but did we mention Sinitta is reworking "Toy Boy" for an August release, 20 years to the day the original came out? Hello? Anyone still reading...?

Bless! I used to love Jase myself. I don't know how he got so haggard looking, I guess the too much cocaine in the Aussie sunshine. I wonder if he'll go the Kim WIlde route and "Too Many Broken Hearts 2007" will just sound like Kelly Clarkson?

And poor Sinitter, the only press she gets these days is when someone needs a sound bite on Simon Cowell. :-(

and it's weird cos men usually get distinguished not old. Success makes a man attractive youth makes a woman desirable. Success is obtained youth is lost. Ergo, jason donovan is a woman. (I have had a lot of drugs again - legal - tonight!)

Growing up, I loved these wankers. I don't need to see them again.

That goes double for hearing "07" mixes. Eek. Can't be a good thing.

Hah! I know who these people are now!

And I love "Too Many Broken Hearts" and "Toy Boy." Not too sure about a reworking, but I'll keep an open mind. I did like some of the Young Divas' album, after all...

OMG!! Ray Cokes? I didn't think I'd ever hear his name again. He hosted Earth to MTV also in the early 90s where I caught some SAW vids that would never get aired during regular hours.

Poor Jase, looks like his face has been used as a toilet seat cushion too many times.

Oh wow, Earth to Mtv -- I had forgotten about it! That was where I taped the Better the Devil You Know (Kylie, not Sonia) video. I was very happy it wasn't the version with the clips of Richard Grieco's "If Looks Could Kill" interspersed throughout.

No,Paul, men get old and all end up looking alike. That said, it's a bad photo at a bad angle. Still, mark my words younger-than-me's, aging is NOT pretty.
