Poll Results: The Most Quintessential '90s Eurodance Tune

It's been a '90s Eurodance kind of month 'round these parts, hence last week's poll (the new one is up now in the sidebar). I guess since it's the music both MoogaBoo and I came of age to at the disco, we never tire of it. Anyway, the pop children have spoken, and below are the results, based on 65 votes, of how you've ranked the top songs on a list of eight.

1. Snap! "Rhythm Is A Dancer" (15 votes)

One distinct memory I have of this song is being 18, taking my parents car to Pittsburgh to go Christmas shopping with two girls that went to another high school and being stuck in traffic for a half hour on a bridge while it came on the radio. At the time, it was just another hit song that got lots of airplay, but who knew it would go on to shape and influence a whole genre? (U.S. #5, U.K #1) [Video]

2. Real McCoy "Another Night" (13 votes)

I'll never get tired of "Another Night." The first time I heard it was the very first weekend I went back to my parents' house during my first semester away at college, in fall of 1994 (I'd done two prior years at a community college). I picked up a friend and we were on our way to the movie theater to see a brand new movie called Pulp Fiction, and when "Another Night" came on the radio, she said, "I love this song -- you have to hear it!" Being away at university, I felt a bit cut off from the world of current hit music, so it was almost like a sugar rush when I heard it. The next day, back at school, I couldn't stop thinking about Pulp Fiction or "Another Night," so I ran out and bought the single. (U.S. #3, U.K #2)

3. Corona "The Rhythm Of The Night" (9 votes)

Over Christmas break of '94, a group of college friends and I went to a gay club for the first time in downtown Pittsburgh. I was 20 and they were all in their late teens. How there coincidentally happened to be 10 of us on one residence hall floor that year that all came out is really a story in and of itself, but that's for another time and place. Anyway, Todd, the guy driving that night, played the single for Corona's "The Rhythm Of The Night" repeatedly on the nervous trip to the club. The DJ played it that night, too, and we even heard it on the radio on the drive home at 2:30 a.m. For me, that song will always be tied to the simultaneous end of one era and beginning of another in my life. Note the now leveled Twin Towers at the World Trade Center on the U.S. single sleeve. (U.S. #11, U.K #2) [Video]

HOW THE REST STACKED UP:

4. Captain Hollywood Project "More And More" (7 votes)
5. Livin' Joy "Dreamer" (7 votes)
6. Alex Party "Don't Give Me Your Life" (6 votes)
7. Culture Beat "Mr Vain" (5 votes)
8. Strike "U Sure Do" (3 votes)

Vote for who deserves a comeback most in our new poll, in the sidebar.

So many classic guy-rap-girlie-sing tunes there but I'm amongst those that voted for 'Snap!'. It really laid the groundwork for most of the others.

Real McCoy holds a special place in my heart, but I concede that "Rhythm Is A Dancer" is indeed worthy of the being the winner of this poll.

    Hi!

I'm glad I found your interesting blog.
    I like eurodance a lot.
The 90's were the best years for this music.

    Greetings from Macedonia (Europe),
