Reverend And The Makers Top Enrique Iglesias As They Penetrate The British Chart

Well, dig Reverend And The Makers! Their new single, "Heavyweight Champion Of The World" -- which to these D'luvvly ears contains heavy shades of Duran Duran's "Planet Earth" -- is the coolest thing to happen to the U.K. Top 10 in months. And, yeah, they're touring around England with the Arctic Monkeys, but Reverend deserves way more hype than those chimps ever got.

Here's the video for "Heavyweight Champion..."

You'd do well to check out their MySpace to hear a clip of the b-side, "18-30."

The majority of the Top 10 contains the usual suspects this week, and while Mutya Buena steadily hangs in at #2 it's annoying that she hasn't trounced Rihanna from the top. The only other new entry in the upper tier is Enrique Iglesias with what's shaping up to be one of the best pop songs of the year. "Do You Know," at #9, is Enrique's highest charting British single since "Escape" peaked at #3 a little over five years ago. It's still worth noting what a crime it is that his greatest song -- the 2000 U.S. chart-topper "Be With You" -- was never released as a U.K. single.

Another misfortune lies way down the chart, as Ghosts' second single, "The World Is Outside," only manages to land itself at a lowly #35. The band's same-titled album is released a week from tomorrow.

The U.K. Top 10

1. "Umbrella" - Rihanna feat. Jay-Z *4 weeks*
2. "Real Girl" - Mutya Buena
3. "The Girls" - Calvin Harris
4. "Cupid's Chokehold" - Gym Class Heroes feat. Patrick Stump
5. "Beautiful Liar" - Beyoncé & Shakira
6. "Here (In Your Arms)" - Hellogoodbye
7. "Makes Me Wonder" - Maroon 5
8. "Heavyweight Champion Of The World" - Reverend And The Makers
9. "Do You Know (The Ping Pong Song)" - Enrique Iglesias
10. "Give It To Me" - Timbaland feat. J. Timberlake & N. Furtado

Thats a very good placement for Enrique!

Hey, ChartRigger have you ever decided to do commentary on other European countries?

Like in at no.1 at the moment in Italy is Rossi Vasco!

Funny you should mention "Be With You" and it's lack of a UK release - they've tacked it onto the end of the release of "Insomniac" over here, albeit remixed by Thunderpuss.

Pink On The Inside, yeah, it's much better than #33, where he's been at for three weeks in a row here on the U.S. chart. As for Italy... hmmm... well, I had a lemon Italian ice yesterday... does that count?

I'm not being exclusionary, you see... it's just I've got Irish blood, English heart.

OBT, you're kidding! How odd!? That song is seven years old at this point.

I love the Reverend song, it's so catchy. And I think a top ten that has that song, maroon 5 and Enrique in is a very good top ten indeed. Now if only i could be bothered about the top two...

"Be With You" was also tacked to the UK edition of his album "Escape".
