Where In The World Is Michael Davidson?

It's 1:27 a.m., and I've fallen prey to the Siren-like charms of the Michael Davidson "Turn It Up" video; his lone hit, if you will.

I use the term "hit" loosely, because although it appeared on Madonna's Who's That Girl soundtrack in 1987, it didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell at charting! (Though in my book, it gets extra points in classiness for the line, And when you scream in my ear / I'll know that you've come... yeah!)

But what is it that's so mesmerizing about this clip? The frenetic Dance Party USA moves? The boyish good looks of Michael? The $35 production budget?

I wonder if Madge watched this video twenty years ago and thought, I'd give him a bounce...despite the dancing.

And what the hell country was this shot in? Where is this guy now? I wonder if this other song he does, "Warehouse" -- which I see a 1989 12" promo for on eBay -- is just as much a work of art?

So many questions left unanswered...all one can do is turn it up!

I remember seeing this video back in the day, probably exactly once. I agree with the above commenter - the best non-Madge song on the soundtrack.

Thanks for posting this - what a blast from the past.

    "Turn It Up" was hot,
    "Warehouse" was not so hot.

"I'm gonna fill up a warehouse,
    with my love for you.
I got it baaad for you."

Well I guess the lyrics to "Turn It Up" are aren't genius either now that I think of it but the music to "Turn It Up" is great, "Warehouse" is just a kind of lifeless pop-dance track. But Michael Davidson looked hot to trot on the cover hence its place in my collection.

There was a shameless ripoff of "Turn It Up" called "Crank It Up" by Italian group Thomas & Schubert back in the day that was kind of cute too.

If this were 20 years ago, MD would be gettin' some D'luvvin'... of course, 20 years ago it would have been 13-year-old D'luvvin', but age ain't nuthin' but a number!

Okay, now I"m curious to a) see this "Warehouse" sleeve cover, and b) hear the song...

"Warehouse" apparently had two 12" singles in the US (according to a Billboard.com search). I couldn't find the original review of it, but I seem to recall dance music editor Larry Flick (or was it still Bill Coleman?) mentioning mixes by C+C. Of course it's now impossible to find and Discogs doesn't even list it...

There are 2 - 12" vinyl copies of "Warehouse", with picture sleeves, available on E-Bay!

Contact me if you'd like a copy of a Michael Davidson collection CD my friend made. It includes four versions of the aforementioned "Warehouse" plus a recently discovered PWL demo Michael made back in the day called "Don't Turn Your Back."

I went looking for this after hearing Madge's Who's That Girl on the radio. I remember the soundtrack was fairly good and this track here is the best thing on it. I loaned it from a library in the late 80's / early 90's when I was about 11 - dubbed it and played it a lot. Didnt realise PWL had a hand in this (read it by Googling MD's name and going to Discogs), they were resonsible for a load of cheesy popcrap at the end of the 80's in the UK (Rick Astly, Mel & Kim, Kylie n Jason etc).

    Ah the memories.

I have just seen the video for the first time in my life!! I didn't know he was THAT good looking and I absolutely love the dance moves no matter how odd they might seem. It was one of my favorite tracks from the Who's That Girl soundtrack and now, I too, have posted it on my facebook.

I went to high school with Michael and always hoped he'd make it; when he became friendly with Madonna and got this song on the "Who's that Girl" soundtrack, I had high hopes for his career and future. But it seems like she bored easily and found some other protege; he wound up touring Japan for a while and then ... last I heard he was in San Francisco and out of the music industry. It's fun to see this video ... (He never was much of a dancer, but he sure could sing).

What happened to him after his short lived music career? I wonder if he became a model? He certainly did have the physique and looks to pull it off!

For anyone interested in a remastered CD compilation that has the Turn It Up In Full Cry Remix, it is finally available in a European cd compilation. They really did a wonderful remastering with Turn It Up along with other 80's music.

Does anyone have the British 12" of Turn It Up. I understand there are 2 extended remixes, one being "In Full Cry" and the other one simply called "extended version"

Has anyone heard the Extended Version? I was told that it's much better than In Full Cry Remix. Thanks for your input......

By the way I'm Gilbert and this is my first post...I'm a lover of PWL/SAW music...

I spent a lot of time with Michael in 1988-89 when he lived in LA. He was a sweet guy who wanted SO BAD to be successful as a recording artist. I lost touch with him and happened to think about him recently, started searching for him on google, facebook and all and ended up here. Its nice to see he still has admirers...if not some actual fans!

I've been looking all over for "warehouse". Does anybody know where this can be downloaded electronically? I used to know DJs back in the day who would mix warehouse lyrics in with the pop songs of the day. It was cool.
