Westlife Vs. Spice Girls: "You Get A Lot Of Tired Old Has-Beens"

Mel C has kicked off a war of words with dumb pricks Westlife, whose new album Back Home was due out in the U.K. the same day as the Girls' Greatest Hits (November 5). Said Sporty: "I personally don't like Westlife. We've just sold out 17 nights at the 02 Centre...we've got nothing to prove!"

This caused the following tirade from Westlifer Nicky Byrne:

"You get a lot of tired old has beens, and I am not referring to the Spice Girls now, saying, 'Oh it was different when I was in the business.' Nostalgia is a big thing and it will work for the Spice Girls. I don't have anything against them personally. But if Mel C wants to start opening her mouth and picking on us individually or our families then it is going to become personal. It should be a good chart battle."

Anyway, the Spice Girls' hits set has since been pushed back a week. E! Online has also reported that the girl group has struck a deal with Victoria's Secret to sell the CD in the store. They'll also be the closing the annual fashion show put on by the lingerie chain on November 15.

The concert will be broadcast in the States December 4 on CBS.

New Towleroad column up now.

Hmmm, did we ever see the Spice Girls releasing album after album of dreary cover versions? In fact, if there is anything that is the exact opposite of West-tripe it's the Spice Girls. Energetic, original, exciting, inspirational, talented.. how many of those words apply to the group that spends most of their time on stage perched on a stool?

In other news, Tesco has announced that they have lined the Spices up for an ad campaign (a la Marks & Spencer using Take That) which will net the girls a cool £1,000,000 each. Let's hope that they light the Spices better than The That, who look like they've gone cold turkey, all decked in their dad's suits.

Who brought "families" into this? Leave it to some Westlifer to try to make this more than it is.

I was just about to say what Mr Moog said- what's with that whiny pussy? Jeebus. Westlife is pure shit - stolen shit at that.

I hope they're not just being sold in Victoria's Secret! The last time I went in there I managed to knock over a whole table full of merchandise, so I'm a little leery of going back...at least until the staff have had time to switch over.

hahahahahaha oh PPG! How humiliating :)

The popstars war of words is an old tradition though stirred up by the press in UK, Blur v Oasis, Girls Aloud v Sugababes, Kylie v Posh Spice, Westlife v Spice Girls. Inevitably everyone ends up sounding a bit twatty and in this case the Spice Girls will sell more despite their laziness of only doing 2 new tracks. So buy the spice girls, and boff Nicky Byrne (possibly using the stuff PPG knocked over!!)

Mr. B, you tell 'em!! Who the HELL keeps buying Asslife's awful, vile garbage, anyway?? Anyway, I think I saw those TT ads... I'd still give J. Orange a slam.

Moog + XO, they're a pack of dirty bastards with a chip on their shoulders.

PG, that just makes me envision you in a sheer, see-through teddy, strutting through the store and doing S-poses in the three way mirror. You wicked harlot.

    Sage advice from Paul

Hi Im a westlife fan, I like a ballad so what? I also like a wide variety of music. Not big into the spice girls but I do think each to their own and that there is room enough in the music business for everyone. Such nasty comments on this site, Really not necessary.

God my hands are tickling to post something...spicegirls needs nothing to prove anything for they push the Beatles' records somehow. they're original, write their own stuff, reinvent and confident in amid failure...that's d best reason to celebrate: the Spice doesn't deny their human nature to fail for they could find strength in it. we can have everything but they have something: reinvented pop, empower feminism! Westlife? pls write ur songs, conquer america even once, push the beatles' records...pls tell mr. walsh he's not as good a fuller. and yes, ur charm in Asia is fading. why? people get tired of u and ur blabbering about the spice. who's hypocrite about nostagia? u revive songs with ur overacting pop style, spices are original and if they claim sonething...they accept reality without hypocrisy. accept it boys!
