Do You Remember The First Time?

Today, Rhino Records releases the four-disc compilation, The Brit Box: U.K. Indie, Shoegaze And British Pop Gems Of The Last Millenium.
I'd just like to state that disc 3 was the entire soundtrack to my college career...well, give or take some Ace Of Base, Kylie and Gina G. And kudos for including Saint Etienne's "You're In A Bad Way"! I did up a full review of The Brit Box for Towleroad today.

The Brit Box is on sale at Amazon for $36.99. Also, an excellent companion piece is John Harris' book on the era, Britpop!: Cool Britannia And The Spectacular Demise Of English Rock, which I read last year. Lots of Suede/Blur/Oasis/Elastica sex and bitchery!

In the spirit of the box set, here's a classic clip of The Stone Roses from Tony Wilson's Other Side Of Midnight program in 1989.

My soundtrack to a world of puppy dog enthusiasm would be *blush* disc 1.

Quite apt that it finishes on the nadir of the era, Gay Dad...

WOAH, them's fighting words! That Gay Dad song is one of the finest of the 90's. I LOVE that album. Phil, I am coming over to give you a few lashes. Get ready.

Ouch! Not with the dog lead! That smarts!

OK. Leisure Noise is one of the finest albums of the 90s.

    *uncrosses fingers*

I ripped Stone Roses' first album onto my iPod finally last night, and I must say I never get tired of it or Suede's first one. What does it take to turn you o-o-on?
