Robyn Heads To The States

With her third single ("Be Mine!") off her major comeback album out in the U.K. at the moment, Swedish vamp Robyn next heads off to the U.S. Just like overseas, she's preceding the release of her self-titled album with The Rakamonie EP, out on Cherry Tree/Interscope January 29. "Be Mine!" and "With Every Heartbeat" are included on the EP, but unfortunately they're in slowed-down acoustic form. Plus "Konichiwa Bitches," "Cobrastyle" and "Jack U Off" are on there, but they've also been on U.S. iTunes since last spring.

Oh well, at least she's doing three live dates over here:

2/5/08 - Highline Ballroom, New York, NY
2/7/08 - Popscene, San Francisco, CA
2/9/08 - Troubadour, West Hollywood, CA

And of course I'm in San Francisco THIS weekend. My timing is always on point. At least I can swing into Virgin or Amoeba and pick up the import. Any idea why they're going with the EP first? Seems like they're diluting their chances of sales on the full-length with this, but what do I know? I thought that leaking a hot song like "Gimme More" would hurt sales of the full-length CD.

    Oh wait...

Ah! I was just about to post about this on DSTP! But both you and XO have got there!

Her CD is through Cherry Records...and there should be more dates soon (So i'm told).

The U.S The Rakamonie EP looks like its a bit different to the U.K one. Would the original With Every Heartbeat do as well in the US as it did here?

John, yeah, enjoy Virgin while you can. They're closing the iconic one here on Sunset Blvd. It's been like a ghost town there for the past year and a half. The one at the Hollywood and Highland shopping center though (next to Mann's Chinese Theater) is always thriving because of tourists. As for the EP, that's how she rolled out her release in the U.K. - The EP preceded the album, so I guess she's sticking with that plan.

Pablo, I want to... it's on my birthday weekend, so I'm not sure if I'll make it. She'll be back, though.

RobP, yeah, Cherrytree is the indie imprint of Interscope Records, which also put out The Feeling's album here last year. That was preceded by an EP, as well. Good question, though, about "With Every Heartbeat." Stranger things have happened -- Cascada was/is huge here.
