"Bleeding Love" Back At #1, And George Michael Is Praying For Time

Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" won't take no for an answer, and returns to the top of Billboard's Hot 100 with a vengeance not seen since that frenzied slut in Fatal Attraction. This happens the same week her album Spirit debuts at the top of the Top 200 Albums chart.

Meanwhile, Madonna and Justin Timberlake's "4 Minutes" takes a tumble down to #7 after a two-week stint at #3. This occurs despite the single being the top download on iTunes for the past week or so. Chalk it up to a previous lack of airplay, though the song is just now starting to get some love from Top 40 radio. Ye Olde Vampyre just might suck the life out of programmers yet!

"4 Minutes" actually flip-flops with Jordin Sparks' and Chris Brown's "No Air," a choon which, to be honest, is probably the best sleeper jam of 2008. After less-than-stunning initial sales of her album, who knew Jordin would pull back-to-back hits out of her wig, with "Tattoo" and "No Air"? Somewhere Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks are sobbing into their Wal-Mart aprons while "No Air" trickles out of the muzak system.

And, Jesus, people will spend 99 cents on anything -- speaking of former American Idol winners, Carrie Underwood's cover of George Michael's "Praying For Time," from the recent Idol Gives Back special, debuts at #27, while Daughtry's "What About Now" is the Hot Shot Debut at #18 and the American Idol Top 8 enter at #43 with "Shout To The Lord."

Why not test your patience with the original "Praying For Time" video, which I literally haven't seen since 1990:

While we're on the topic of George Michael, his hits compilation, Twentyfive, debuted on the album chart at #23 last week. But now it's dropped faster than George himself in front of a toothless farmhand at a highway truck stop to #96.

On a final note, remember Britney Spears' "Break The Ice"? Back on the Hot 100, it jumps from #60 to #46. Can you believe that bitch's latest album hasn't even been certified Gold yet?

The U.S. Top 10:

1. "Bleeding Love" - Leona Lewis *2 weeks*
2. "Lollipop" - Lil Wayne Feat. Static Major *airplay gainer*
3. "No Air" - Jordin Sparks Duet With Chris Brown *sales gainer*
4. "Love In This Club" - Usher Feat. Young Jeezy
5. "Touch My Body" - Mariah Carey
6. "Sexy Can I" - Ray J & Young Berg
7. "4 Minutes" - Madonna Feat. Justin Timberlake
8. "With You" - Chris Brown
9. "Love Song" - Sara Bareilles
10. "Low" - Flo Rida Feat. T-Pain

Carrie's version of "Praying" hurt my soul. She sang it like every note needed to be a power note, and lost a lot of the subtlety of GM's orginal. I think you're right about Madonna's airplay, and she'll probably be #1 the week the CD comes out. You know she's getting a Whack-A-Leona machine installed at the estate as we speak, though.

Britney's album has scanned about 900K...the label probably just is waiting for platinum certification...

Stewie, thanks for that... I was wondering, and thinking surely it had to have at least gone Gold by now.

John, I didn't put this in the post, but I remember buying my keyboard stand with my savings in late summer 1990, and coming home and setting it up. After fiddling around with it for awhile, I flipped on MTV and there was the "Praying For Time Video" which seriously was the only other time I'd ever seen it until today when I put it on here.

I wonder if Carrie was a fan of the song, or if it's just one that she was given on a list to choose from for the special?

Lord have mercy that Leona won't give up. So when was the last time a british female singer had a number one single and album together with their debuts? Ever?!

I still haven't heard Jordin's song, though when i was in Vegas i heard a lovely song and realised it was Tattoo. Go figure. Talking of idols, why does America Gives Back have to be all about Jeebus?

Finally - fuck dude, i mailed you that CD with a special something else inside ages ago. I'm very sad that it hasn't arrived yet. The surprise was LEGENDARY!!!

I must admit I actually like the Underwood version of "Praying For Time" better than the original. Plus we don't have to worry about Carrie passing out with her pants down in the middle of the song!

    Paul, according to Billboard:

"Lewis thus becomes the first British-born artist to simultaneously top the Billboard 200 and Hot 100 since Phil Collins in 1990 and first female since Olivia Newton-John in 1974." Not sure about debuts...

And, F, I never got the CD package!!

Orangutan, but I bet she'd still get caught jerking off a cop in a toilet!

I love "No Air"...but The-Dream and Rihanna's "Livin' A Lie" is still my 2008 pop/R&B duet of choice--I'm sure they're just waiting until Rihanna isn't all over the airwaves with her own material, for that in between albums gap, before they break it out as a single. I'm looking forward to it conquering the airwaves because I'm nowhere near tired of it yet--and if it doesn't, there WILL be trouble.

Did I hear that "One Step At A Time" will be Jordin's next single, or did I invent that?

"Break The Ice" is such a perfect pop song.
