Madonna Scores Her 13th U.K. #1, But Does She Still Have A Shot At The Same Here?

Madonna, who until today had clocked a total of 12 #1-charting singles in both the U.S. and U.K., now scores her 13th in Ol' Blighty with "4 Minutes." It's been quite a frustrating few weeks, no doubt, for American fans of "4 Minutes," as the single's dominance on digital sales charts has been offset by its slowness to gain in radio play -- thereby allowing it to rise no higher than #3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Myself, I finally heard "4 Minutes" on KIIS-FM, Los Angeles' Top 40 station, yesterday. It was one of those instances where I was bored with all the music I had in the car, and thought to myself, I wonder if KIIS is playing "4 Minutes" yet. Lo and behold, it was on when I flipped to the station. Sexy when that happens.

And while we recently celebrated Mariah Carey's 18th #1 here in the States, in the U.K. it's quite another story. Mimi's only had one chart-topper there, her 2000 cover of Phil Collins' schmaltz-fest "Against All Odds" (no doubt urged to that position because of it being a duet with favorited Irish boyband Westlife).

But it might not be curtain's for Madge's U.S. chart-topping hopes just yet. Hard Candy's release next Tuesday will likely add extra downloads of "4 Minutes" from the album to her weaponry, and the same day a CD single featuring remixes will be made available.

Of course, she'll likely need to maintain her lead position on the iTunes download chart to do this, and there are still nine long days till April 29. Tick tock, tick tock...

The U.K. Top 10:

1. "4 Minutes" - Madonna Feat. Justin Timberlake *1 week*
2. "American Boy" - Estelle Feat. Kanye West
3. "Black And Gold" - Sam Sparro
4. "Low" - Flo Rida Feat. T-Pain
5.
"Cry For You" - September
6. "Love In This Club" - Usher Feat. Young Jeezy
7. "Touch My Body" - Mariah Carey
8. "Mercy" - Duffy
9. "The Age Of The Understatement" - Last Shadow Puppets
10.
"Always There Where I Need To Be" - The Kooks

quite a boring UK chart this week methinks/ I'm pleased for LaMadge but i was hoping for a higher placing for the glorious Last Shadow Puppets. Boooo. Meanwhile Leona is outselling Mariah's new album here (though clearly not in the US I suspect). And yay! The Feeling are saved from dropping out of the UK Top 75 album charts thanks to a vigorous tv marketing campaign that probably cost more than the royalties made for their 39 position.

Paul, good ol' The Feeling! Just when I forget about Join With Us, I find it lying around in my car or on the coffee table then I pop it in for a listen. Then I misplace it again for three more weeks....

Anonymous, something tells me Madge's hard candy's been leaking for about 34 years.

NFD, beat it with a snow shovel and it should go away.

"Against All Odds" isn't Mariah's only UK number one - her first was her remake of "Without You."

    That said, 1 or 2, it's no 18.
