Hangin' Rough

Good God! The New Kids On The Block performed this painful medley of shit hits on The Today Show Friday:

Granted, they haven't sang live together in 15 years. (In fact, is this the first time they've ever sang "live," one wonders?) But it gives an idea on what folks have to look forward to from the group's reunion tour.

Their new single "Summertime" is currently #21 on the iTunes chart.

Their sound was dated within a year. How is it going to go over now? This makes me feel glad that I grew up in the era of Duran Duran being the phenom - they are MUCH less embarrassing than this lot. In fact, NKOTB makes Duran Duran look like fecking Wilco!

    Where do I start...

Interesting that they used the intro to "Click Click Click", which is actually a solid pop track, IMHO. Between sound mix and middle-aged groupies, that was tough to watch. At least the one mic that was the loudest was Joey's, who can actually sing.

Full disclosure...while not a huge fan, I felt like they had their moments. Their last CD, "Face the Music", had a few promising moments, including one of my all-time favorite pop songs, "If You Go Away". But you really had to suffer through a LOT to get to the few gems.

They've got a LOT of work to do before their "world tour". You can only hide Jonathan in the corner so many times.

I like it. Sure, they sound worse than Madonna live but I'd take their cheesy crap over any of the current indie darlings.

I've come to the conclusion that I just truly loathe NKOTB. Always have, always will.
