Secretly Crushing On David Archuleta's "Crush"

Children, the unthinkable has happened. It's a nightmare. The shame streams forth from my soul like Katy Perry's tongue flickering about in search of semi-soiled panties to lap up.

D'luv has found himself smitten with none other than Baby Queen David Archuleta's new single, "Crush," after not watching more than half an episode of American Idol this past season.

Apparently I'm not the only one, either—within 20 hours, "Crush" is the top-downloaded track on iTunes. Look for it to debut in the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 next week.

Here's the little vixen listening to his single get it's very first airplay, on New York City's Z100:

"Crush" was produced and co-written by Emanuel Kiriakou, who also did up Nick Lachey's "What's Left Of Me" two years ago.

That's gotta be it. I was completely obsessed with that song back then. Give me a sappy, over-produced ballad with a decent chorus (yes, I'm talking about you, JoJo), and I'm on my knees.

The Katy Perry/panties image notwithstanding (like, euuughh...), I have to admit it's a bit of an addictive little song. I do cringe at the title, though ("Crush"? What, is Archuleta 11 years old or something? Sure, 98% of his fan base is that age, but couldn't they have given the lad a song with a more adult title?!?) I sheepishly admit I'm waiting anxiously for his album.

Speaking of Emanuel Kiriakou, he's a pretty darn good singer as well as songwriter. If you can't find his independent album "Favorite Enemy" (which I urge you to seek out at all costs), check out his live set with Joe Mac (yes, Joey McIntyre from New Kids On The Block) ... fun with a few four-letter-words!!

Okay...the song's good. There's no getting around it. However, the formula's gonna get old soon, and we all know it. The creepiest thing about the video is that it kind of seems like not only is he hearing it on the radio for the first time, he's just hearing it for the first time PERIOD. Say what you want about David Cook, but the reason he won AI is because he's got his own individual style developed. Archie's just going to be Svengali-ed for a while.

The song, just like its singer, suck.

Baby Queen should go away, that Z100 video is just sad. Hey Pork Chops (chuleta = pork chop), they are not laughing with you.

Adem, has been JoJo is in a new Lifetime movie... a movie about Britney/Lindsay. Well, "inspired". Confessions of a teenage-something, I think is called.

You know your career is in the toilet when you are doing a Lifetime movie.

David has delivered an amazing first single to his fans, and the public. It is rhythmic, David's superior vocals soar and are identifiable throughout, has a catchy beat.. Hey-> I watched lotsa American Bandstand back in the day :)

His older fans like me find themselves humming along unconsciously, and the verses transport the listener back to those bygone days of school girl and schoolboy CRUSHES... It has an appeal across a very broad spectrum of listeners, and should effectively silence the detractors and critics who didn't believe he had mainstream appeal. CRUSH is the catapult for David to continue his growth and evolution as an artist - I ANTICIPATE MANY MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING MUSIC FROM HIM. TAKE A BOW DAVID... YOU'VE ARRIVED.
