Pop Conspiracy: Britney Spears' "Womanizer" Vs. Rihanna's "S.O.S."
Britney Spears' new single "Womaizer" made its debut in full today on New York City station Z100 FM. The pic above is Britboxx on the set of the video, which is being directed by Joseph Khan—who also did her clips for "Stronger" and "Toxic."One thing's clear about "Womanizer"...it sounds exactly like Rihanna's "S.O.S."! It also kinda sounds like "Radar," off Britney's Blackout.
Doesn't it also seem like that bridge to the chorus is a bit lyrically-challenged? ("Womanizer, womanizer, oh, you're a womanizer, oh, you're a womanizer...")
Did Britney write this gem herself?
Labels: Britney Spears, Pop Conspiracy, Rihanna

This isn't any good. There's no melody and the chorus is awful.

I am a MASSIVE Britney fan but after 3 listens I'm still not 100% sold on this song yet! It's no Gimme More!
However, though the song sounds like Radar crossed with Ooh Ooh Baby from Blackout, it sounds NOTHING like S.O.S.!

oh i've heard it once, then half of twice and believe me that was more than enough. I couldn't cope with it anymore. And i am quite partial to a bit of Britney. Sounds dreadful... SOS was MUCH better than this! (But yeah your comparison is spot on!)

It's kind of boring, actually. I'm not understanding the raves as of yet.

ww_adh, agreed. You'd think with all the hype of Britney's "comeback 2.0" that the material would be better. I kind of started to get doubtful awhile back when she said the new album was going to be more "urban."
Arlen, I'm hearing "S.O.S." in the melody of the verses, the way she sings them. It's the first thing I picked up on.
Paul, I can give or take her, too, but was hoping for better this time around. Blackout was great.
John, yeah, I guess by 'more urban' she meant a return to her boring dip into R&B with the third album.
Anonymous, thanks. I've never heard of this Cyndi Lauper!

song is very disappointing.
but most worrying is how she seems to have grown AN EXTRA HAND.

Oh it's fine I think. I had it on repeat for hours on Friday to see how sick of it I'd get and, repetitive chorus or not, I still really like it.
SOS is shitloads better though.

i do see the "radar" tie-in, but S.O.S., no. however, S.O.S. in itself shouldn't really count as a song since it is completely derivative in its own right. "womanizer" is a grower and come on people, since when has britney been known for lyrical brilliance? we're just looking for things to nitpick :p
