Oops!...Jive Did It Again: "Womanizer" Gets Taken Off iTunes

Well, okay, Jive Records didn't do it at all, but I digress...

According to apparently well-informed Britney Spears fan site Britney.com, "Womanizer"—the top iTunes download for the past week—has been removed from the online store today due to "a glitch."

"Jive is looking into this problem as we speak, and they're working to get it resolved ASAP," says the site.

"Womanizer" is on track to selling over 250,000 downloads by the close of the Billboard chart tallying. One more day will determine whether if it becomes her second U.S. #1, after 1999's "....Baby One More Time."

In the meantime, since Britney's gone AWOL, T.I. and Rihanna's "Live Your Life"—the current chart topper on Billboard's Hot 100— has reclaimed the top position on iTunes.

UPDATE: (10:41 p.m.) She's back on there.

How much did Christina have to pay to make this happen?

    Superbitch, indeed.

ok Dluv, what's your theory on this? Mine would be that they weren't expecting "Womanizer" to peak so quickly so they are purposely trying to pace the sales and align it in time for airplay to peak. Who knows though. Blame Adnan! :')

The irony is that T.I.'s song is back on top on iTunes, and he's signed to Atlantic, the label that infamously took Estelle's "American Boy" off the online store for a month to boost albums sales....and who also won't put Kid Rock on there. (No big loss!)

I do recall JoJo's "Too Little Too Late" mysteriously disappearing from iTunes two years ago, which may have ultimately affected it's chart peak.... it eventually hopped to #3 after being made available for paid download, but you can't help but wonder if it would have been higher if it hadn't disappeared for a bit.

Might have been some funny business going on there....and here...?

As they said on The X-Files, nothing disappears without a trace.

    Money talks.

That's disgusting! Itunes should have to make a huge payout in compensation! If she doesn't go to number 1 i will be so furious. Itunes will never again be loved by me.
