Well, The Good News For Same Difference Is...

There's really no way to sugarcoat this one, kids. Same Difference debuted at the lackluster position of #13 on the U.K. singles chart last week with first single "We R One." But while some might have been thinking, Oh, they're more of an album act than a single act, anyway, those folks had best get their heads out of their derriere.

Monday the pop duo's album Pop saw a U.K. release, and as of Friday evening, it's at #53 on the British iTunes store. The good news is that on Amazon UK it's at....#48. Eeeek!

My own copy of Same Difference's Pop arrived today—along with Take That's The Circus, an entirely different story, sales-wise—and I had no idea how much of a hand Jörgen Elofsson and Dave Kreuger, the Swedes behind Britney Spears' "Sometimes" and Gareth Gates' "Anyone Of Us (Stupid Mistake)," had in the album.

And that much-touted Mike Stock/Pete Waterman-produced cover of Kylie Minogue's "Turn It Into Love"? Yeah, Mike Stock had no involvement.

Still, Pop is a decent pop album. Unfortunately, it was just released about 10 years too late.

You might be surprised to know that I love Gareth's Anyone Of Us single. But until the dude in Same Difference pounds one out on Xtube, I am indifferent.

I was emotionally scarred by watching their X Factor performance of "We R One". Maybe that's a harsh criticism, but a) it was lip synced on a show that they sang on live for over 3 months, and b) the performance as a whole was a train wreck. There is so much other good music out there right now that I just can't wait for them to come around.

Same difference was to me part High school musical part Steps and together none of it is appealing.

On a side note Steps didn't age well. I sold my collection when I moved only keeping the greatest hits.

Maybe same difference has another trick up their puffy sleeve. Er, maybe not.

i'm not sure how i feel about buying this cd.... it's mostly full of kinda rubbish covers....

love the way they try to hide covering 2 'SIX' by changing the title of 'the way it used to be' - to 'still amazed'.

Also there are some fantastic songs nearer the end of the album!? what's that about? - all roads lead to heaven is absolutely fantastic and should've been done by Steps.... (of H and Claire)

If i wasnt in Sydney i'd have sent it back to amazon.

Same Difference sucked arse from day one on The X Factor and people are surprised that their album is a dud? Colour me surprised.

And they are allowed to put out an album, when many pop acts never had a chance? Oh the injustice!

XO, I've always wondered why you don't start XOTube...?

MM, agreed. As I said, I think it's just 10 years too late for SD. Or maybe a couple years too early? The late '90s retro thing will come back into play soon...the early '90s are already coming back. Which makes me feel really young...

John, YES, it was so bad, no? I couldn't believe they lip synced on there!!!

Jump!, did you really? I still have all the albums and singles. I think some of the album tracks on the very first one (UK version) are better than some of their latter singles—"Back To You", "Too Weak To Resist," the cover of "Love U More"... all good stuff.

Dan, the SD album surprisingly works as a pop (no pun intended) album. But I kind of feel like you have to listen to it as a whole, the entire way through, to appreciate it. Otherwise, yeah, if you just put on the cover of "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," it's like, Okay, this is lame.

Anon, maybe they sucked the right arse, and that's how it got released?

BTW, I'd like to say that if Paul had managed this effort, this entry would have been more victory lap than funeral dirge.
