Poll: What Is The Greatest Max Martin Song?

For the past couple months I've been kicking around this idea to make a two-disc Max Martin mix for my car called "What If Max Martin Had Never Existed?"

Just a hypothetical question, but can you imagine? Think of all the great pop songs that wouldn't be around—whether they be ones he wrote, produced, co-wrote, etc.

Anyway, given the giddy exuberance upon finally hearing Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You" this week, I thought I'd be groovy to at least slap up a poll narrowing down six Max classics, and seeing which one Chart Rigger readers deem to be the Swedish pop king's greatest masterpiece.

And who knows, maybe I'll actually burn that compilation this weekend.

    TOUGHEST QUESTION EVER.

Well, it would be if we had to choose from every song he'd ever made. Even as is for this poll, it's not an easy choice...but I've made my decision. Your hypothetical question is scary.

You'll have to post the tracklist of that CD if you make it (or at least e-mail it or something!). I made a Max Martin playlist this past fall (still in the work-in-progress stage), but I've got the feeling I left some great stuff out.

Oh, I should add in that I am still looking forward to whatever reinvented-and-then-copied-again-and-again sound Max will debut in a few years.

Seriously, this is too hard. Some of my fav Max songs not in the poll:

Robyn - Do You Know What It Takes
Backstreet Boys - Get Another Boyfriend
Solid HarmoniE - I Wanna Love You
NSYNC - Its Gonna Be Me

    Again this is too hard...

And for the record, my favorite Ace of Base song Max worked on is "Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry". It just may be my fav AoB song ever..it's the perfect combination of AoB's early pop/reggae with the Cheiron sound.

Oooo Where the dildo is Solid Harmonie I'll Be There For You! Best Max Martin song EVER.

Then there's Robyn's Show Me Love!

I really had to think about this (although "So What" was nowhere near making the cut) but finally settled on "I Want It That Way." While I can't really listen to much Backstreet Boys these days, that's one song that I still really like.

Dan and I are on the same page. In the grand scheme of things, BSB has the most enduring song on this list. Having said that, I personally would have liked one of the Robyn tracks on the list for balance, too. Pink and Katy Perry cancel each other out for being too similar to each other.

    Because it's the better song?

That is a tough question. I'm not really knowledgeable enough for all the "written by" malarky... but i'm going with since u been gone. And any poll that MISSES OUT Robyn is a-ok with me :P

"...Baby One More Time"? Really? That humongeous excrement? Is this a Worst poll then? Terrible song by an even terrible "singer".

I'd go with "Since U Been Gone".

My God, it's too difficult to narrow down the greatest Max Martin song, but apart from all of the excellent choices noted above, the one Max track I have permanently stored in the IPOD is "The Call" by the Backstreet Boys". Cheap pop Drama at it's finest!
