San Francisco, New York Virgin Megastores Closing This Spring, Leaving Only Three Left

And then there were three. It was already known that New York's Times Square Virgin Megastore was closing in April. But now sources have told Billboard that the city's Union Square Virgin Megastore—where, over the years on different trips, I bought CDs like Madonna's Confessions On A Dancefloor and the Killers' Sawdust—will also be shuttered at the end of May.

As well, San Francisco's Market Street Virgin Megastore—where I found the Japanese version of Scooch's Four Sure in 2000, and bought Pink's I'm Not Dead three years ago—is also closing down.

Only three of the stores remain will open in the U.S. for now: Orlando, Denver and Los Angeles (at the Hollywood and Highland complex, where the Oscars are held at the Kodak Theater).

The original L.A. Virgin Megastore on Sunset Blvd. was closed in January 2008, which is when I made this d'luvvly sad video:

    Makes me SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sad :(

This is where I finally found the (for me, back then) elusive Creep 96 Japanese release of TLC, in the acid jazz section of all places... and also saw my first gay porn magazine back when I was 19... Sigh :(

Yep, goodbye to it all. I've had to say my final farewell, off to the dole office...

I feel like it's my job to single-handedly keep the Denver store open. Anyone who wants to donate to the "John's Shopping Spree to Save Virgin Fund", please just drop me an email with your credit card number (or send money), and I will go shopping in your honor.

Joshua, Virgin carried gay porn in San Francisco?! Damn, I thought they were edgy for importing Smash Hits here in L.A. when I moved here in '99...

Mr. Brady, sorry to hear you're a casualty of the Zavvi drama. I see some of the staff have been temporarily rescued.

John, yes, I thought of you when I saw there was one in Denver still open!

Denver was supposed to close after the convention? Orlando will close early June

The Orlando Virgin is slam packed everytime I go. They've got to be doing mad business there with their $18.99 "sale" prices for new releases. I would be sad to see it go should it be axed. It's fun to walk through and score a rare import or back-catalog item.
