New Backstreet Boys Album Gets Release Date

With talk of all the singing cougars returning this fall, it's only right that the DILFs of '90s pop, the Backstreet Boys, should toss out a new album.

It's been announced that the Boys' sixth studio album, This Is Us, will be released by Jive Records on October 6. Of course, it's only been two years since their last one, Unbreakable, came out in the fall. I gotta admit—that one suuuuuuucked.

Many tracks from the recording sessions for This Is Us were leaked in the spring, including this Max Martin jam, "Bigger":

Not bad, though it's definitely Max Martin-Lite, which the former-fivesome- turned-foursome have always leaned on, anyway.

The guys also worked with Kristian Lundin, T-Pain, Claude Kelly, Soulshock and Karlin and RedOne on the new album.

Oh, BSB... I just don't know. I want them to succeed so badly, but I don't know who is going to buy this. The first official single will be Straight Through My Heart (Soldier Down), which is playing on their website. It's a RedOne track and pretty good.

    I still miss Kevin though!

Yeah, I'm still all "no Kevin? no sale" over here. Not fair, I know, but it's how I feel.

Not terrible, but not great either. I had a soft spot for "Inconsolable" or whatever it was from the last album. The melodrama was so thick you could cut it with a knife.

I always liked them better than NSync though.

like whitney, it's an album i'll buy and probably enjoy for the most part just because i've liked them for so long. It's a rule of mine that is close to snapping point with mariah though :/

When I saw BSB were back (alright) I was kind of like "give it up, for God's sake", but I totally liked this song! Max Martin's new sound is really good in general, it's much more up-to-date than Pete Hammond, who is still doing the EXACT same SAW sound from the late 80's! (That's kind of embarrassing.)

Martin did the Carolina Liar hit recently, which had me thinking that Carolina Liar was some singer-songwriter a la John Mayer or Jason Mraz, when I guess Carolina Liar is actually a boy band(?) who employ Debbie Gibson's old stylist (Debbie Gibson's sister)?

Martin also did another song for Carolina Liar called Last Night that could easily pass for a Killers song. So, I'm glad he updates his shit.

This new album could be fairly great, actually.
