Leighton Meester: Bad Girl Done 'Good'

Oh, Leighton Meester—it was last August when I fell hard for Gossip Girl, having watched the entire Season 1 DVD in three days. That was just some good television, no? Season 2, not nearly as superb, I gotta admit. It picked up about seven episodes in, but was just overall kind of blah.

That said, Leighton warbles on Cobra Starship's pop hit "Good Girls Go Bad," which this week enters the Top 10 of Billboard's Hot 100 Singles at #10. Might this be a precursor to Leighton's supposed singing career? Maybe it's a good sign that she'll succeed, where so many other of TV's aspiring ho's (Heidi Montag, Hayden Panettiere, Joey Lawrence, etc.) have flizz-opped!

Elsewhere, kudos to Mariah Carey for breathing new life into "Obsessed" like a lifeguard performing CPR on a waterlogged hooker. This week, the singles rises three positions to #14. Maybe "Obsessed" will be like Chris Brown's "Forever," which initially debuted high last spring, then fell for awhile until radio caught on and helped to elevate it all the way up to #2.

Another jam that dropped then flew back up is Shakira's "She Wolf," which scurries like a rabid Twilight tween at the sight of Taylor Lautner up from #41 to #21.

Meanwhile, poor Ting Tings. They had one brief week in the Top 40 when they inched up to #39 on the previous chart, and have now dropped to #41. What were those immortal words Ace Of Base taught us, kids? That's right—life is demanding without understanding.

On a final note, David Guetta and Akon's classy "Sexy Bitch" debuts at #56 (while, Guetta and Kelly Rowland's "When Love Takes Over" languishes at #82), and Michelle Branchawww, good memories from '02 of her first album—pops in at #93 with new single "Sooner Or Later."
Goodbye to you, goodbye to everything that I knew...

I'm very pleasantly surprised that "She Wolf" is taking off in America. I thought it might be a bit too left field to work but I'm very happy to be proven wrong!

I have yet to be bitten by the "She Wolf". :( As for Ms. Branch though, her first two albums where fantastic. I wish the first one would have included the radio edit of Goodbye to You, i thought it was so much better.

I'm increasingly tempted by Cobra Starship - they might float my boat for a little while... And oh god, I was playing both my Joey Lawrence albums not so long back :P Now, whatever happened to Blossom?!

Damn...Jay Sean cracked the top 10 here. Not bad. Don't really like the song. Really liked "Maybe" (despite the remarkably cheesy lyrics) off his "My Own Way" album released last year.

Don't mean to be pedantic D-Luv but its "Goodbye to you, goodbye to everything I thought I knew..." I used to think it was "that i knew" as well. I Absolutely used to non stop listen to her first 2 albums as a teeny bopper and have recently started listening to Goodbye to You coincidentally...

Hurray!! shakira is at 21. I hope she at least goes top ten but she is doing very well so far. Here's hoping...

I'd like "She Wolf" better if Shakira had remembered to include a chorus. Or melody. Or learn to sing instead of squawk like her Columbian pussy's getting tasered.
