Kylie Minogue Does The Hollywood Bowl, Unveils 'Better Than Today'

Needless to say, the Kylie Minogue show at the Hollywood Bowl here in Los Angeles last night was mind-blowing. She opened with "Light Years" and, two hours later, wrapped up her encore with "Better The Devil You Know" and a lounge-y, almost a cappella rendition of "I Should Be So Lucky."

The Beatles, Elton John and the Rolling Stones have all played the Hollywood Bowl—and it's where I saw Depeche Mode in August and Diana Ross last year—and just before her last song, Kylie said, "Playing at the Bowl is just beyond words. I can't believe I'm standing on hallowed ground. And if I think about it too long I'll get far too emotional."

Here are clips of show opener "Light Years," where she was lowered out of the cieling on a giant metallic skull (watch at 1:40 in, when the camera zooms out), and brand new song from her next album called "Better Than Today":

She did a really rad medley of "Shocked," "What Do I Have To Do" and "Spinning Around." And I have to say, it was beyond awesome that she performed a true-to-the-original—if not extended—version of "Better The Devil You Know."

I would have thought she'd have belted out "On A Night Like This" or "The One," but those were the only major omissions I can think of.

And, really, it didn't matter anyway. Wow-wow-wow-wow.

great show! and kitten got us the best seats ever. And the lyric she was singing when the guys threw her into the splits was "read my lips...i'm into you" -

    that's our classy kylie!

I think she must change up the encores for the different shows as the Oakland set (the second night) I saw had "The One" as one of the encores but no "I Should Be So Lucky."

SOrangutan (ha!), she did preface ISBSL by saying, 'Tonight I want to try something a little different." I think she genuinely was excited about playing the Hollywood Bowl, and was knocked out by the overall response she got from the sold out crowd. There were a couple times where she would only give a certain little look to the audience, and the crowd would go nuts.

But, yeah, it's always great when they switch it up. True pro.

I completely lost my voice from screaming the whole time! Kylie is so gifted; That awesome voice (she sings live - which these days seems to be rare at live shows), her talent, beauty and personality make her a complete package. The open-to-the-sky and stars Bowl is a hard venue to play - even Donna Summer struggled to find her groove and sound during the first song last year (like for a few minutes then she blew us all with her voice). Kylie came out and sounded crisp and gorgeous. Did anybody notice the moon coming out behind the trees, stage right, when the opening number started? Awesome to see.Her show was a mind-blowing work of art (watch, listen and go nuts for me sort of attitude) and at the same time touch us at such personal levels when she addresses us. I could tell she was overwhelmed by emotions at one point when we would not stop screaming - as if she could not believe it - I LOVE that she has not lost that, even with her level of fame. Dead Center booth 1435 with great friends was my 40th birthday present and Kylie made it unforgettable. I ADORE YOU, KYLIE - much love happiness and health.

Mind-Blowing is an understatement; Kylie KILLED at the Bowl last night. She did not disappoint at all and it was great seeing the audience completely into her. We had amazing seats as well, and we had fun screaming out requests for songs we knew she would NEVER do like "Nothing to Lose" or "It's No Secret"!!

FYI - It was a great show, but it was not a sell-out. The Hollywood bowl holds 17,500 guests. They did sell-out the tickets they made available 8,500 knowing they could not sell-out the Bowl on a Sunday night. If you were there you would have seen the trees lining prom 4 blocking off prom 4 and 5. But taking nothing away from the show, it was excellent.

Patrick, you must've loved it, then, at least, when "It's No Secret" popped up for a brief second in the Kylie Smiley mix!

Anonymous #1, I saw the moon! I pointed it out to the peeps I was with. Was indeed a perfect night. Sadly, though, no "On A Night Like This" ;/

Mighty Spuds.... and happy to dream about riding the backup dancers.

    Andrew, have fun!!

Anonymous #2, so the tickets were indeed sold out then. And a slight hinting that I wasn't there? Do you dare!

Take it DD, Dannii actually served me a hot dog...hers.

Doll. She did "The One" all remixed up in Vegas the night before. But she didn't Do "I should be.." I have to say that the Vegas show was amazing and the way she did "The One" was excellent. I think since it was such a smaller venue, I prefer the Vegas show. Was so amazing to see KYLIE 20 feet away... Wonderful show! Both better than the London show last year imo.
