The Four Hottest 2010 Grammy Nods

Wow. The Grammys. Always a rip-roaring adventure. Sarcasm aside, besides the overall Beyonce and Taylor Swift lovefest this year, there were a few bona fide decent nominations. (The full list of the bazillion nominees is up at the official Grammy website.)

1. The Lonely Island & T-Pain, "I'm On A Boat" for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration

This is hot on so many levels, not the least of which for the fact that "I'm On A Boat" is up against "classy" songs by Jay-Z, T.I. and Beyonce. Please, please, please let it win!

2. Pet Shop Boys, Yes for Best Dance/Electronic Album

Yes x 10. They didn't win when they were nominated for Fundamental three years back. Thankfully Yes is a far superior album. That said, the Boys face stiff competition here from David Guetta, Lady Gaga, LMFAO and The Crystal Method.

3. MGMT up for Best New Artist and Best Performance From A Pop Duo Or Group (for "Kids")

These fuckers deserve it. They were dismal live when I saw them, but their music stands on its own, regardless.

4. Lady Gaga up for Song Of The Year, Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Best Dance Recording, Best Dance/Electronic Album

Sorry, haters, but she totally earned it. Give in to the monster.

PSB are definitely an underdog for Yes, but it sure ain't from LMFAO. The old coots at the Grammys actually got it right for the most part. Sign o' the times that the average age on Best Rock Vocal, Male is around 55. You know it's old when Prince is the young'un.

    Hail Gaga! :D
That Beyonce/Taylor Swift super nominations ain't much of a surprise.

I usually find plenty to be excited about when the nominations are announced, but, Gaga aside, these left me pretty cold. If "Single Ladies" and ESPECIALLY "Halo" (vomit!) succeed where "Irreplaceable" failed, I'm going to be annoyed. As for Swift, I don't dislike her, and I concede that some of her songs are catchy....however, I think all this "high-level" praise is a bit much! Oh, and I kind of miss the days when they found a way to nominate Sheryl Crow for something every year...she released a great album last fall. The elimination of female rock vocal really hurt people like her and Alanis...

I would really like to see Beyonce go away for awhile, but I'm always encouraged when the Pets snag a nomination.
