Best Grammy Performance: Pink
Major props to Pink, who stole the show from Lady Gaga's opener with Elton John tonight at the 2010 Grammy Awards. Pink sang ballad "Glitter In the Air" in a white cloak, but stripped it off halfway through then got hoisted in the air for some pretty effing amazing acrobatics.I really can't believe Taylor Swift won as many awards as she did, while Pink got nothing. The Black Eyed Peas pretty much had the second best performance of the night, with "Imma Be/I Gotta Feeling" (the dancers dressed as speakers were particularly rad)—though Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli doing "Bridge Over Troubled Water" admittedly got me slightly misty.
Here are the Peas:
Below is that Lady Gaga/Elton John opening performance of "Poker Face/Speechless/Your Song." Out of the five categories she was nominated in, Gaga ended up only snagging the Best Dance Recording and Best Dance Album awards. (David Guetta won for Best Remixed Recording for "When Love Takes Over.")
And here are some of the big winners from the 52nd Grammys:
ALBUM OF THE YEAR: Taylor Swift, Fearless
SONG OF THE YEAR: Beyonce, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)"
RECORD OF THE YEAR: Kings Of Leon, "Use Somebody"
BEST NEW ARTIST: Zac Brown Band
BEST ROCK ALBUM: Green Day, 21st Century Breakdown
BEST ROCK SONG: Kings Of Leon, "Use Somebody"
BEST FEMALE POP VOCAL PERFORMANCE: Beyonce, "Halo"
BEST RAP/SUNG COLLABORATION: Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye West, "Run This Town"
BEST DANCE RECORDING: Lady Gaga, "Poker Face"
BEST ELECTRONIC/DANCE ALBUM: Lady Gaga, The Fame
BEST COUNTRY ALBUM: Taylor Swift, Fearless
BEST CONTEMPORARY R&B ALBUM: Beyonce, I Am... Sasha Fierce
BEST POP PERFORMANCE BY A DUO OR GROUP: The Black Eyed Peas, "I Gotta Feeling"
BEST POP VOCAL ALBUM: The Black Eyed Peas, The E.N.D.
Labels: Black Eyed Peas, Elton John, Grammys, Lady GaGa, Pink

OK, this Taylor Swift stuff is officially out of control. She's fine...some of her songs are fine...but really? Her album had more of an impact than Gaga's? Really?

Thanks Robbie for sharing the Pink video - visually stunning (and amazing that she's got the balls to do it, though not surprised at all. : )

Loving Pink - she continually gets overlooked for how consistent and smart her music is. Surely she would have an amazing greatest hits collection by now....

I think the recording academy picks a tiny handful of artists/bands and distributes the awards among them. Sadly, this trend dates back a good fifteen years. That is when the Grammy Awards became utterly meaningless to me. Back in the 80s, winning a Grammy actually meant something. Now, these awards go to the overexposed handful that don't necessarily offer us much to be excited about. Looks like I am not the only one that feels like this. Read the itunes reviews of the new grammy nominations album. Those reviews echo my sentiments. Maybe the recording academy needs to get out of their isolated shell and read blogs like this - before deciding on nominees.

Shaun, yeah, way over her. And, yee haw, shouldn't she be about due to release a new album this year?
Sandy, glad you caught it! And, being the Down Under diva that you are, she did that whole routine during her Aussie tour (and I'm guessing US one, too, though I didn't see it) last year :)
Paul, I've already made one on my iPod!
Pranav, urgh, so sad if that's true.
rcLoy, sadly, Heidi Montag was overlooked again.
Realsugar, nice profile pic! Everyone, take a look at it -- it's very arresting. Did you go see her in August, lady?

Pink did the stunt at her stop in Madison Square Garden. I was blown away and got splashed on but it was effin' amazing. Even without the acrobatics thing, Pink won me as an even bigger fan during that concert.
As for TS, it would have been a greater triumph only if she performed on-key. Beyonce was trying to out-Gaga Gaga but I think she failed.

At the risk of upsetting the Gagaloonies, I think it was pretty tired. The outfits/performances have gone from from wild to embarassing and I swear if i hear Speeechless one more time, I am pulling the internet cable out. It's sounding more and more like something Aerosmith vomited up mid 90's. That awful mud on the face-posing as edgy was just ugly to look at, and If I want ugly, I'll call Fantasia.

I'm sick of Pink's acrobatics. It's old and getting lame. To be honest, none of the performances blew me away. I'm glad Beyonce picked up so many gongs but she was robbed of album of the year.
