Welcome To 'Glee' And Owl City Mania, England

Owl City crash into the U.K. singles chart this week at #2 with "Fireflies," which previously threw me for a d'luvvly loop when it managed to top the U.S. chart in the fall. Still not sure if this guy will wind up being a one-hit wonder, but here in the States, his album Ocean Eyes—which is being re-released in two-disc deluxe version form a week from Tuesday—has been certified Gold.

Another American phenom from '09 makes waves in the Brit chart this week, as the Glee cast version of "Don't Stop Believin'" debuts at #5. It's the big climactic number in the series' pilot episode, where the show choir geeks decide to trudge on, despite their instructor abandoning them for a new job and opposition from just about everyone else in the school:

Brings a tear to the eye, no? Oh, and P.S., Artie, the character in the wheel chair, is played by Kevin McHale, former member of the boy band NLT.

Meanwhile, the original Journey version of "Don't Stop Believin'" hangs in at #6, The Saturday's drop to #14 with "Ego" after one week in the Top 10 and JLS debut at #32 with "One Shot." (See the music video here.)

I'm off to enjoy the last sunny day before a solid week of rain hits Los Angeles. Ciao!

The U.K. Top 10:

1. "Replay" - Iyaz *2 weeks*
2. "Fireflies" - Owl City *new*
3. "Riverside (Let's Go!)" - Sidney Samson
4. "Starstrukk" - 3OH!3 feat. Katy Perry
5. "Don't Stop Believin'" - Glee Cast *new*
6. "Don't Stop Believin'" - Journey
"Bad Romance" - Lady Gaga
8. "You've Got The Love" - Florence And The Machine
9. "Stay Too Long" - Plan B *new*
10. "Broken Heels" - Alexandra Burke

Nice to see Glee mania taking over here. I feel all smug with my dvd box set I got in vegas :P And STILL (if internet rumours are to be believed!) Simon Cowell insists on having Joe "dropping like a stone" McElderBerry's second single as Don't Stop Believing. THE TIME HAS PASSED!!

Now is Alexandra's single out already or is it due out today? (Mon) I can't imagine SyCo are happy with number 10 if it's already formally out, and it would be a shame if they gave up on Overcome because of that ala the abandoning of Breathless :(

Nice to see JLS starting off their third hit already - probably thanks to the flash some flesh video?

In the album charts, William Young has dipped out the top ten finally - it's not been a big number one hits album but it sold consistently around the top ten mark all through late Nov and December. Hurrah!

Yay! Finally someone giving credit to NLT! You don't know how happy that makes me!

Anywho - yes, good one to "Glee". I really didn't think the hype would continue for as long as it has, but it's good to know there are enough musical loving people like you and I to keep this moving. :)
