Ricky Martin Comes Out As A Gay Man

I don't imagine everyone will agree, but I had a few things to say about Ricky Martin officially coming out of the closet today over at Idolator.

This is the least surprising confession since Rosie O'Donnell came out of the closet. Seriously, who even cares about this has-been anymore?

Good for Ricky. I know he's been having a hard time of it since I dumped him, so I'm glad to see him finally turning a corner and coming out.

i seriously thought he had come out ages ago, perhaps when those yoga pics of him and some dude on the beach surfaced. But no, this was his coming out. Oh. Well good for him...

No surprises whatsoever. I remember reading that article about him having twins via a surrogate. As a straight guy, I couldn't help thinking "why would I have kids through a surrogate when I can just do that the traditional way?". The answer was simple. Ricky Martin is definitely gay and that decision was his "outing". Either way, good for him. In a sense, he is shedding an image and it gives people the opportunity to decide where the appeal was - in the image or in the music.

With all due respect, Robbie, your piece on idolator was nothing more than fluff.

Product tied to it? Hardly. If that was the case, he would've waited to release that information closer to the book release ala Barbara Walters and her confession of her affairs, rather than WAY before the book has even been finished. Hell, if he really wanted to capitalize on it, he wouldve done it prior to his last bomb relesae "Life" (or whatever that CD was called) for press.

I truely believe that Ricky did this because he was ready now. The book writing process only helped ease him into that acceptance in releasing that information.

My real beef with him was that he allowed Barbara Walters to ask him that question 10 years ago, and and then not answer it properly or fairly (that was a complete press/attention getter). He could've easy laid down the ground rules for that interview to not allow her to ask that question - and if she refused, he could've just not done the interview. Instead, he didnt, and tried using it to his advantage.

Mike, good question? Guess we'll see how that book sells.

Moog, I FORGOT you two dated...you heartbreaker.

Paul, now if only Jason Orange would start writing a memoir....

Pranav, I'm thinking it was his abs.

Anonymous, fluff? FLUFF? I slaved away a whole 17 minutes on that post!

Wait wait wait wait wait... Ricky Martin was at any point 'not gay'? (Please take note of carefully positioned quotation marks)

Dear God. It's like they actually wait until every single person- 'they' being artists such as Adam Lambert, Mika or Missy Higgins- even the people who really don't give a crap, are absolutely positively certain that they're gay, with no backing up or backing out. And THEN they come out. Stupid fucking safety nets. They never tell anyone anything that they don't already know. Where is the surprise and the melodrama? WHERE IS IT I SAY? (Probably with Dumbledore, but he was outed by a 'third party')
