Christina Aguilera's "Not Myself Tonight" Video Pays Homage To Other Videos

Christina Aguilera is clearly paying tribute to iconic videos of the past (Madonna's "Express Yourself" and "Human Nature," George Michael's "Freedom '90," etc.) with her own clip for "Not Myself Tonight."

But this attempt to go full-throttle whore in a post-Lady Gaga music world just smacks of desperation. She already covered this dirrty territory in 2002, no? And why should Xtina—an icon herself at this point—have to reference anyone else? Her voice is clearly her strong point, so why is she trying to sell music by getting her tits out again?

Granted, this video plays into the very notion of Aguilera not being herself. But did she have to be every other pop star for the camera? Couldn't she have been, say, a migrant worker? Or a librarian? Oh, well. Here's the S&M/leather/vinyl-clad bondage video:

Will reserve full judgment on this Bionic project till the full album is heard. Because as stated before, I still think "Not Myself Tonight" is a decent jam.

Wow i really dont know what to think about that. That was a lot raunchier than the Dirrty video. This is like a XXtina. I would have thrown in another X but that was more soft-core porn, no penetration lol. I still am not a fan of the song.

I agree. She could have gone a more elegant/classy route, without any hint of nastiness, and people would have been shocked. Or even gone completely opposite and went like... I dunno Japanime total cutsieness. The looks are SUPER hot tho.

AND I'm also not a convinced fan of the song just yet

Andrew + Joshua, after a couple more views, the video isn't horrible. It's actually growing on me. I do like the song way more than the visual, though.

Anyone else think the frizzy blonde look (while setting the closet on fire) was an homage to Annie Lennox from the video for "I Need A Man"??

Tacky tacky. This is the problem I've had with her many X over. We hear all this news about how she's working with all these cool people, and then this trash is nothing but a let down. She's got the voice, and is capable of SO MUCH BETTER. And by the way, isn't she a married mom? I know that doesn't mean you have to roll over and shrivel up, but shesus...

The perfume placement smacks of ridiculousness, and she is NOT nor should she try to be Lady Gaga, the woman she now seems to be chasing. Good luck XXtina.

By saying the video isn't horrible underscores just how disappointing the whole thing is. What an incredible waste of time and talent, seriously.

I think the video is really cool. Yeah all the costumes are tacky but the concept and dancing are great.

More talent & better voice than all the other blondes combined! She blows them all off the map!

Song : Just a 2010 remake of Dirrrty. Same Message and similar song structure. Clearly Christina A is still having self-image issues and feels the need to try to tell the world that "Really...I'm hot and sexy". (and to that, I'd answer "no - you're not Christina").

Video - A very pathetic attempt again to compete with the likes of her own Dirrty video to the next level along with competing with Gaga and trying to "out glam" her. On both fronts, it failed.

Christina, do us all a favor and go back to singing songs like "Genie in a Bottle" where you weren't yelping in the microphone and forcefully convincing us that you are hot and naughty.
