Someone Who's Not A Katy Perry Fan: Linda Perry

They may share the same last name, but clearly the writer of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" and Pink's "Get The Party Started" draws the line there.

Hottest line: "Who wants a fucking Katy Perry record? I'm sorry. You know, you're gonna get the two songs that are probably the hits that are good. But the rest of the album is gonna be crap. It is."

Well, actually, Linda — make that the five songs that are the hits.

Wowzers, I am not a Katy Perry fan either, yet I feel like I need to come to her defense here. What Katy does is not really all that different to what many other ladies of pop have done, and yeah, some of her singles may be trite in an effort to get her heard and sell, but is that so different from what Xtina did when she started? If anything, Katy's stuff is actually BETTER than Xtina's was three years into her career. I can sort of see where she's coming from with the Adele comparison, but I also cannot picture her singing a song like Teenage Dream, and someone's gotta do it, right? This just makes Linda seem bitter.

And by the way, Linda's last project, Deep Dark Robot, was atrocious.

I have to agree with her a little bit. California girls is the worst song ever. I still can't believe it was a #1 song. Her success has to do more with the fact that clear channel is probably being paid by her record label to play her songs. Firework was a great song, that was about it for her.

I had to truly laugh out loud watching this. Linda calling Katy Perry's single "popcorn" is kinda funny given that Linda's bills have been getting paid peddling the same type of fast food music katy is guilty of. I imagine Linda's just pissed katy didn't ask her to write something for Teenage Dream. Face it Linda, you can't lick Xtina's once golden crack anymore to score a hit and "whats up?" royalty checks aren't what they were in the 90s.

Katy is hard working and i think she deserves that success she's having. I don't believe you have a worst song if its goin number 1s

I don't necessarily follow Linda as an artist, but have to confess credit needs to be given. She has done great stuff for P!nk, Xtina, Gwen Stefani, Vanessa Carlton, Alicia Keys, Dixie Chicks, James Blunt, and Celine to name a few. So, before you think she's just "What's Up", remember she probably wrote something you sing along to.

As to what she said about Katy, it is her opinion (so why crucify her?) and one that many share, including myself. I don't think Katy is evil or anything, and neither does Linda from what the video shows, but she is a commercial artist only. She is not going to write 'an album', which is exactly what Adele does (if we are talking about the two mentioned in said video). Adele will unlikely match the success of "Rolling in the Deep" in the US because a) she's not a commercial artist, and b) because everyone has her album (best-selling album of the year thus far) and so people do not download "singles", which is what many artists like Katy are known for. A song that is addictive in the moment, but that you find no deep truth or sentiment in it.

Why is that so hard or awful to admit outloud?

I think it's funny Katy matched Michael's chart record because there are a lot of people who have done what she does better, but to each his or her own.

Good for her and good for Linda for having the balls to speak her mind.

Well, she certainly knows a thing or two about crap.
