Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, Adele & The Best First-Week Albums Of The Year

Inevitably, Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV has topped the album chart this week, thus becoming the 21st album to reach #1 on the Billboard Top 200 in 2011. (In the UK, the rapper didn't fare so well — his ninth album only squeaked in at #8.)

And for a LP that received reviews ranging from lukewarm to downright harsh, it's all the more impressive that Weezy racked up first-week sales of 964,000 copies. By comparison, last week's #1, Game's The R.E.D. Album, opened with 98,000.

This still trails the 1.1 million Lady Gaga's Born This Way did in May. (Hardly deserving. Now that the dust has settled, it's Britney Spears' Femme Fatale that I personally listen to the most — but that's because I'm a gold-plated whore.)

At any rate, here are the five albums that have had the best opening week sales so far in 2011:

1. Lady Gaga, Born This Way (1.1 million)
2. Lil Wayne, Tha Carter IV (964,000)
3. Jay-Z & Kanye West, Watch The Throne (436,000)
4. Adele, 21 (352,000)
5. Beyonce, 4 (317,000)
