U.S. Chart Roundup: Rihanna Has The Longest-Running #1 Of 2011

"We Found Love," the top pick on Chart Rigger's 10 Best Pop Singles Of 2011 list, has racked up an eighth week at #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, thus giving Rihanna her longest ever stretch at the top of the chart. It also marks the longest run at the top for a single in 2011. And given that this chart is dated December 31, RiRi's in no danger of losing the title.

Let's just thank Christ that Rihanna has mercifully kept LMFAO from having another #1 for the past two months. I was driving home from having a dinner with a friend in the Shadyside area of Pittsburgh last night, and I had "We Found Love"playing on repeat. That classy trash still sounds as good as it did the first day we all heard it, exactly three months ago today. Too bad the the bulk of the rest of Talk That Talk blows.

Elsewhere, Adele's third 21 single "Set Fire To The Rain" jumps up to #13, Selena Gomez's "I Will Survive" "Love You Like A Love Song" climbs to #26 and Jessie J's "Domino" leaps 10 positions to #28.

And then there's Lady Gaga's struggling "Marry The Night," which flops down from its peak position (so far) of #29 to #33. Think she'll learn her lesson and ditch the self-indulgent 13-minute music videos now? Probably not.

Ke$ha's total non-event, the "Sleazy 2.0 Remix" featuring a bunch of rappers whose names I can't be bothered to type out, goes into the chart at #38. Just put some new music out already, broad.

And I love how radio is finally throwing Avril Lavigne a bone by playing "Wish You Were Here" (#80), after completely snubbing the far superior "Smile" over the summer.

On a final note, Michael Buble's Christmas is the #1 album on the Top 200 for a fourth week. As I said back in November, it's pleasant holiday trash, as long as Buble keeps his clothes on.

The U.S. Top 10:

1. "We Found Love" - Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris *8 weeks*
2. "Sexy And I Know It" - LMFAO
3. "It Will Rain" - Bruno Mars
4. "Good Feeling" - Flo Rida
5. "The One That Got Away" - Katy Perry
6. "Ni**as In Paris" - Jay-Z & Kanye West
7. "Someone Like You" - Adele
8. "Without You" - David Guetta feat. Usher
9. "Moves Like Jagger" - Maroon 5 feat. Christina Aguilera
10. "5 O'Clock" - T-Pain feat. Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen

WFL has a pretty big lead in airplay, and is neck and neck with LMFAO in sales, so it could easily stay #1 for another couple of weeks.

Still scratching my head about your continued props for Smile. I'm a big Avril fan, but that has got to be close to her worst song ever. She sounds SOOO annoying on it. Stop Standing There, I Love You (pathetically unimaginative title though) and Not Enough are the best songs on her album, but I guess didn't fit the tough gal image as much as Smile. This is where you should insert one of your patented slams which I can't even attempt to imitate.

I had to sell my soul to make sure LMFAO never made it to #1. The more interesting thing to me further down is "Domino," which has REALLY grown on me. The lyrics make Katy Perry sound like Shakespeare, but it's still a jam.

@John: I agree on "Domino". To be honest, Jessie is fun and deserves some love. I mean, if other mindless tracks are successful, why not hers?

"WFL" deserves to be the longest #1 of 2011, and like wpmsd said, it could (deservingly) potentially stay there longer. It's way better than "TikTok" which was #1 for nine weeks, the longest #1 since.

Also, I know Adele had probably the best music this year, but she is taking the cake for '21' so I am happy for Rihanna since she has certainly become a singles artist. Take it Riri. (Technically, Adele is still taking part of the cake for best-selling single for "Rolling in The Deep").
