Yesterday I slapped a few quotes from Lady Gaga's upcoming Vanity Fair cover story on here. She'll also be gracing two different covers for Elle's January issue. Is it me, or is she now doing her second (or third) rounds with all these magazines at this point?

Avicii's "Levels" Video: For Those Who Wish Flo Rida Wasn't Involved With "Good Feeling"

As mentioned the other day, both Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" and the song that one's melody is sampled from, Avicii's "Levels," are riding high on the UK chart, at #3 and #4, respectively. (Here in the States, "Good Feeling" is at #7 on the Hot 100 while "Levels" is #66.)

Now, if you're like me, you just pretend that "Good Feeling" is some mid-'90s Euordance jam when it comes on the radio — the kind that used to have the diva wailing on the chorus while a German rapper spit nonsense on the verses. But, if you don't have the patience to suspend disbelief when it comes to Flo Rida, then just go with "Levels".

Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night Video" Premiering This Week

Little monsters, you can finally stop ramming your monster paws up your trangina! Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" video is scheduled to premiere this Thursday on E! will probably leak online today or tomorrow.

And the Sexy will keep rolling on through the new year, as the bewigged broad will appear in the January issue of Vanity Fair. There's an excerpt from the article here, and it contains this particular gem from her, about why relationships never work out:

“Perhaps it’s a whose-dick-is-bigger contest. If I go to the piano and write a quick song and play it back, they are angry with how fast and effortless it is. That’s who I am, and I don’t apologize for it. But it’s a hideous place to be in when someone that you love has convinced you that you will never be good enough for anyone... I think what it really is, is that I date creative people. And I think that what intimidates them is not my purse; it’s my mind.”

Well, what probably really intimidates them, luv, is how bad "Judas" sucked.

Christmas Came Early: 'Absolutely Fabulous' Is Back!

Holy F! I knew that Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and the rest of the cast of Absolutely Fabulous had been working on new episodes, but I didn't realize they'd come flinging across the airwaves so soon.

Eight years after the last AbFab series aired, this short preview of an upcoming three-part Christmas special shows Edina in the full swing of all things social networking (the classy broad has a blog, a vlog and a Twitter account, per her conversation with Bubble).



At first I nearly panicked when I read that this holiday special — the first of three overall specials to commemorate the show's 20th anniversary (!!!) next year — is airing on the BBC in the UK, but no US date has been announced.

But then I realized that, duh, this shit will be all over the Internet within hours of its first broadcast.

After 24 years in the music biz, Kylie Minogue was handed the ARIA Hall Of Fame award over the weekend. Her acceptance speech (following an introduction by Ian "Molly" Meldrum and award presentation by Australia's Prime Minister) was typically humble, and the most successful recording artist in Australia's history even came off as a bit nervous.

UK Chart Roundup: Rihanna Sets Records, The Saturdays' New Album Flops

Several eyebrow-raising things occur this week on the UK singles chart, not the least of which is the fact that, at six weeks at #1 with "We Found Love," Rihanna has racked up a total of seven weeks at the top in 2011 — the most for any artist this year.

The Official Charts Company notes that RiRi has achieved two other feats this week: 1.) with Talk That Talk debuting atop the album chart, she's now the first female solo artist to have two #1 albums within the same year in the UK, and 2.) she's also the first artist since T. Rex (in 1972) to have racked up a simultaneous #1 single and album in the UK twice in the same year. (Previously, Loud and "What's My Name" were both on top of the charts at the same time in January.)

Back on the singles chart, One Direction's "Gotta Be You" takes a dive from last week's debut position of #3 to #16 in the same week their first LP Up All Night debuts at #2.

Meanwhile, as Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" drops one position to #3, Avicii's "Levels" — the original track "Good Feeling" samples its main melody from — enters the chart at #4.

Jumping once more to the album chart, The Saturdays suffer a colossal flop with third LP On Your Radar, which goes in at #23. Looks like the only radar those broads will be on two years from now will be the Yelp.com search results for UK-based strip clubs.

Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" Video: Watch A One-Minute Preview

After last week's Prelude Pathetique (whatever the fuck that is) of Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" video, the broad has offered up a full minute of the upcoming visual so her Little Monsters can have something to jam leftover turkey drumsticks up their squid ditches and boy junk over during the long holiday weekend.

In this particular scene, it looks like Gaga is taking part in some dance audition. Basically, you walk away with the impression that she's really flexible, and can probably do all sorts of tricks when embarking on The Sex.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Katy Perry Is Only Fifth Artist To Land Six Top 10 Singles Off One Album

With Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" moving into the Top 10 this week (at #10), she joins the ranks of Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, George Michael and Janet Jackson as artists who've had at least six Top 10 hits on the Hot 100 from one album. Thus, she becomes only one of two females to pull off the feat, and she's the first artist to do so since Janet Jackson's 1993 album janet. produced six Top 10s.

And while she's the fifth to pull off the chart trick, Katy's Teenage Dream is now the seventh album to produce six Top 10 singles (Michael and Janet had two each). The full breakdown album is as follows:

Brunette Kylie Minogue Performs Piano Version Of "I Should Be So Lucky" On 'X Factor' Australia

Kylie Minogue has been busy at Abbey Road studios in London recording her upcoming album of orchestral and acoustic renditions of her past hits to celebrate her 25 years in the music business. And to give fans a taste of herself as a brunette, she appeared on Australia's version of The X Factor.

Well, she also performed, if you're into that sort of thing. In addition to singing with X Factor contestant Reece Mastin, Kylie sang a piano-accompanied "I Should Be So Lucky" — which, if I'm not mistaken, is the same arrangement she did during her inaugural North American tour, when I saw her at the Hollywood Bowl in October 2009.

The 2011 American Music Awards wasn't the worst thing I've ever sat through. But then again, I downed two glasses of booze beforehand, so you could have flipped on the Soap Opera Network and I probably would have been happy.

I feel like the best performance was Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera. I don't even know why — I'm so sick of "Moves Like Jagger," and I wanna shove a butcher knife through the car stereo every time it comes on the radio. They did sound pretty tight, even thought Xtina looks like a low-rent Pittsburgh stripper. (Oh. I guess I could have left the "low rent" was redundant in that sentence.)

Walk out the door in shame, lads. Not even Gary Barlow, who wrote this dross with John Shanks, could save it.

Adam Lambert Announces "Better Than I Know Myself" Single, 'Trespassing' Album

I've really grown to dig Adam Lambert as an artist over the past two years. Publicly, he doesn't trash his American Idol past, but he's also managed to avoid becoming one of the marginalized, bland robots that come out of the show (*cough* Kris Allen *cough).

So bravo to the news that Adam's second post-Idol LP Trespassing will be out in the spring, and its lead single "Better Than I Know Myself" will be out — uh, at some point.

We posted the news of the single yesterday on Idolator. This prompted Dr. Luke to tweet the link out, and note that the song was done up by himself, Cirkut, Ammo and Claude Kelly. And since, collectively, that classy quartet is responsible such jams as "We R Who We R," "My Life Would Suck Without You" and Sabi's "Wild Heart," here's hoping the song sounds as hot as Ke$ha's thong flapping against a drum machine.

Steps Perform A Medley Of Hits For Annual Children In Need Telethon

The reunited Steps finally surfaced tonight after a few weeks of inactivity, this time for the annual Children In Need charity telethon. The quintet performed a trio of their hits in a medley — "Deeper Shade Of Blue," "Tragedy" and, for the first time since getting back together, "One For Sorrow."

Why hasn't Beyonce performed on The X Factor this season? Oh, that's right — you actually have to have hits to be invited on the show. Maybe next time, after you shoot out that kid you're "pregnant" with and record an album people actually want to listen to, Bey?

The Real Chart Queen Rihanna twirled onto the stage of the ratings-challenged televised dog and pony act last night, wearing ripped jeans, a plaid bra and a black jacket, and sang her current #1 hit  "We Found Love" as her flannel-clad dancers moshed all around her. (The only thing missing: Calvin Harris standing on the side doing a solo jack-off session for the camera.)

The performance was kind of reminiscent of a Nirvana video from 1993, only if Kurt Cobain was in Rosie-Perez-as-a-hooker drag. (So, basically, just Rosie Perez drag...)



All that said, am I the only one who thinks the set is kind of ripped off from Lady Gaga's Monster Ball stage?

Lady Gaga's "Marry The Night" Video: Watch Two Minutes Of 'The Prelude Pathetique'

Lady Gaga's video for fifth Born This Way single "Marry The Night" has yet to premiere, but the crazy broad has chucked out the below video — titled The Prelude Pathetique — to whet the appetite of those who Barbie Doll-leg themselves while flickering their tongue at their computer screens over every move she makes.

Basically, Gaga's on a stretcher being wheeled around what appears to be a mental hospital after possibly attempting suicide.

I'd bet you 40¢ that's her actual hair — because, you know, she's keeping it real in this vid.




Just a little sidebar: I bought Born This Way on vinyl back in June, but by then I'd pretty much become burnt out on that album. So now that some time has gone by, I've been playing the record again, and I'm really digging a lot of it.

Will we ever be able to separate Lady Gaga from the hype? Because that's when you can truly appreciate the music.

U.S. Chart Roundup: Britney Spears Always Flops With Her Fourth Single From An Album

A whole bunch of Taylor Swift songs from the deluxe edition of Speak Now infiltrate the Hot 100 chart this week. So it's business as usual, and we'll just move on to Britney Spears. The "poor" doll's  "Criminal" drops from its peak (so far) of #55 to #64.

Britney can never really catch a break with the fourth single off her LPs, a trend that started way back with her first one. Sure, ...Baby One More Time came out in that pre-iTunes late-'90s period where having a physical CD single out for a song was hit or miss. That said, "From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart" did get a CD single release, and it still missed out on the Top 10 (it charted at #14).

But after that, if Weaveney managed to have a fourth single released off one of her albums, they always missed out on the Top 40 altogether. (Think "Outrageous" peaking at #79 and "Radar" only scraping its way to #88).

Oh, well — she can still jam a Barbie Doll leg up her candy box knowing Femme Fatale is her first LP to actually produce three Top 10 hits here in the States. 

Elsewhere, Rihanna's Dr. Luke-produced "You Da One," her second single from upcoming album Talk That Talk, debuts at #73. The song will fly up the chart next week, as it was made available on iTunes this past Sunday and is currently perched at #5 on the digital store's top songs roundup.

I'd mention where Beyonce's singles are this week, but, quite frankly, we've spent far too much time already discussing songs that are flopping.

Pet Shop Boys 'Format': 1996 - 2009 B-sides Collected For February 2012 Release

One of the best purchases I ever blew my entire weekly allowance on while away at university, in September 1995, was Pet Shop Boys' complete-at-the-time B-sides compilation Alternative. As classic as their singles from that golden age of their career are considered to be, often so to were there equal marvels on the flip sides — and here they were, at last collected on one album! (Well, on two discs, at least.)

And so today, 16 years later, Pet Shop Boys officially announced their forthcoming follow-up to Alternative, which is called Format. It's another two-disc affair that's due out on February 6, 2012 (a day before my birthday).

According to the Boys' official site:

"...it celebrates the duo's prolific song-writing and recording by collecting 38 b-sides and bonus tracks originally released on singles from 1996 to 2009. The album will be available digitally and on double-CD. All tracks have been remastered and the CD booklet features an interview with Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe by Jon Savage (author of England's Dreaming and Teenage)."

Strange that they didn't just extend to 2010 and tack on the B-sides ("I Cried For Us" and "Glad All Over") from last year's Ultimate single "Together."

Anyway, Pet Shop Boys' site also notes that the duo are working on their 11th studio album, which is "due for release in early autumn next year."

Below is the tracklist for Format. The second CD is the clear winner in my book, given "We're The Pet Shop Boys" ("Miracles" B-side), "The Resurrectionist" ("I'm With Stupid" B-side) and the 7-inch version of "In Private" ("Minimal" B-side).

Still, will be good to re-discover some of these gems.

Steps' Boxset 'The Platinum Collection' + Revisiting The Band's Three Studio Albums

Since November rolled around, all has been quiet on the Steps front save for the recent bit of news that something called The Platinum Collection — a boxset — popped up on Amazon UK. One would guess that this is rushed holiday season cash-in by Sony (release date: November 28), given that The Ultimate Collection topped the UK album chart last month. And, at three discs, it's probably safe to assume its the band's three studio LPs in slightly fancy (or, very possibly, highly cheap) packaging.

That's not necessarily a bad thing for all those folks who opted for Gold back in the day or The Ultimate Collection, and don't own a proper Steps album. After all, they had some pretty decent album tracks.

All you need to know:

1. Step One, 1998 —  ★★★☆☆

Solid late-'90s pure pop effort packed with decent singles ("Heartbeat," "One For Sorrow," "Last Thing On My Mind," "Better Best Forgotten") and a few standout album tracks ("This Heart Will Love Again," "Back To You" and a PG-rated cover of Sunscreem's "Love U More"). It lags briefly when the cover of Worlds Apart's "Experienced" rolls around halfway through.


2. Steptacular, 1999 — ★★☆☆☆

Weighed down by snoozy ballads (including the single "When I Said Goodbye" and tracks like "I Think It's Love") and unnecessary covers of Sybil's "Make It Easy On Me" and Bananarama's "Movin' On." That said, there are a few highlights, including the singles "Deeper Shade Of Blue" and "Say You'll Be Mine," and album tracks "Never Say Never Again" and the surprisingly mature album closer  "You're Everything That Matters To Me."


3. Buzz, 2000 — ★★★★☆

If you're going to own one Steps album, this is the one to get. A near-flawless 56 minutes of pop. The cover of Kylie Minogue's "Better The Devil You Know" and the H-dominated "Learn To Love Again (basically a knockoff of Sonique's "It Feels So Good") are the only sticking points. The rest — from the perfect singles "Stomp," "It's The Way You Make Me Feel," "Here And Now" and "You'll Be Sorry," to Lisa Scott-Lee's shining "Never Get Over You," Lee Latchford Evans' Metro-produced jam "Turn Around" and the band's finest moment, "Paradise Lost" — is criminally good, and makes for a must-have disc to have in the car at all times.

Final thoughts: if you're in completionist mode, and the above is what's truly on The Platinum Collection, there are worse ways to spend your cash. Otherwise, just pick up Buzz and Step One.

I really like Penguin Prison — the dude, Christopher Glover, has good taste, as he's remixed Goldfrapp, Darren Hayes and Ellie Goulding over the past few years — and with a little luck, the masses will take a shine to him to, given the timeliness of his appropriate Occupy Wall Street-themed "Don't Fuck With My Money" music video.

Relax, Grandmas Of The World — GQ has a few different covers for its December "Men Of The Year" issue. So you won't have Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timerlake playing cock-grab staring out at you from every Target checkout line. Probably just the long lines. As in Justin Timberlake's long manpiece.

So why, then, do we as a music-loving society always have a fascination with Justin Timberlake when he no longer makes music? Because he's always reminding us of his cock.

All I have to say is that when my issue arrives in the mail, it had better not be the Jay-Z cover.

UK Chart Post: Rihanna Spanks JLS

JLS' second offering from their new album Jukebox (out Monday), "Take A Chance On Me," has become the boy band's sixth single to chart at either #1 or #2 in the UK (in this case, #2) and their eighth consecutive Top 10 hit overall. Sadly, I lost interest in these four guys after their first album, as the music just keeps getting more and more bland.



Meanwhile, Rihanna and Calvin Harris' "We Found Love" returns to #1 for a fourth non-consecutive week. Here in the States, the song has been #1 on the Hot 100 for two weeks, while it's also topped the charts in Canada, Sweden, France, Germany, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.

Over on the UK album chart, Grand Dame Of The Elevator Dirge Susan Boyle bumps Florence + The Machine off the top with her third straight #1 LP Someone To Watch Over Me.

2011 is really going out with a whimper, isn't it?

It's Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" Video

Am I getting sappy in my old age? Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" video premiered today, and I swear I almost started bawling from the very opening scene.

The clip stars Katy, both in old-age form and in her current 27-year-old state, along with actor Diego Luna in his classiest role since Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights.

Old Katy looks disgruntled at the onset, while living in her Hollywood Hills mansion with her husband. She then flashes back to her younger (and much poorer) days, when she was shacked up with an artist (Diego).

They did fun things together like paint, crash weddings and give each other tattoos — until one day they have a fight that tragically proves to be the last time time they ever see each other.



The other day I asked if people thought "The One That Got Away" would go to #1 and become Perry's sixth chart-topper in a row off her current album. But screw it — after this video, I say the song deserves to achieve that feat for getting me all choked up like a menstrual broad watching Days Of Our Lives all alone on a Monday afternoon.

The perfect way to end the Teenage Dream era.

Here's Rihanna's new single "You Da One" — produced by Dr. Luke, available on iTunes this Sunday night, and, quite frankly, not nearly as catchy as lead Talk That Talk single "We Found Love."

Rihanna 'Talk That Talk' Album Snippets: A First-Listen Judgement

Not only has the single art for "You Da One," Rihanna's next Talk That Talk single, hit the Internet, snippets from 11 of the album's songs have, too. If I had to judge based on the seconds-long clips themselves — well, who am I kidding; I'll just do that below.

1. "You Da One"
The next single, produced by Dr. Luke. Has potential, though kind of slow.

2. "Where Have You Been"
Sounds like a continuation of "We Found Love," and the song I'm most curious to hear in full. Why isn't this the second single?

3. "We Found Love"
As we know, one of the best singles of the year.

4. "Talk That Talk"
The Jay-Z song. Awful.

5. "Cockiness (Love It)"
Wasted.

6. "Birthday Cake"
Embarrassingly bad.

7. "We All Want Love"
Interesting, slightly pop-rock ballad. Someone's been hanging out with Coldplay.

8. "Drunk On Love"
Possibly the album's second standout, after "Where Have You Been."

9. "Roc Me Out"
Album filler.

10. "Watch N' Learn"
More album filler. Talk That Talk really isn't walking the walk, is it?

11. "Farewell"
More anthemic power balladry.

This could, of course, all change once I hear the album in full. Or not...

US Chart Roundup: Do You Think Katy Perry Has Another #1 In "The One That Got Away"

We're a day away from the video premiere for Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away," her sixth Teenage Dream single that climbs this week from #34 to #18 on the Hot 100. It's a pretty rapid ascent, and I'm surprised that radio is still giving that broad this much love 18 months into the album campaign (I'm counting the fact that "California Gurls" was released in May 2010).

That said, "The One That Got Away" pushes the right buttons by conveying just enough (cheap?) sentiment to get 15-year-old sluts and 30-year-old gays alike foaming out their skirts. Plus, as far as sixth singles go, it's a pretty decent offering.

Here's the tease for the music video, which is set to debut on The Ellen DeGeneres Show tomorrow (so expect it to leak hours before that — if not today):

Steps Member Claire Richards Strips For 'Closer'

Just when you thought things were getting quiet on the Steps front, following their reunion, band member Claire Richards has posed nude for UK mag Closer in a shoot that emulates a classic photo of actress Jayne Mansfield.

"It’s much easier to look like a ’50s siren when you’ve got boobs, a bum and a few curves," she tells the mag. "In the past, celebrities were 'real women' with real bodies, not skinny waifs. There’s nothing more attractive than looking feminine."

Duran Duran's "Girl Panic": A Contender For Best Video Of The Year

Duran Duran's video for All You Need Is Now single "Girl Panic" was directed by Jonas Akerlund, stars Naomi Campbell as Simon Le Bon, Eva Herzigova as Nick Rhodes, Cindy Crawford as John Taylor and Helena Christensen as Roger Taylor.

I know, I know. But just watch it.

Set in London in the aftermath of a rock and roll party that never ends, it's the kind of loud, extravagant, over-the-top and, needless to say, expensive video that is somewhat of a dinosaur in these days of record label collapse. Or at least it's poking fun of those types of videos. Or maybe a little of both.

Who the fuck cares — they're Duran Duran. They can do what they want at this point.



I will say that I've been totally stanning for All You Need Is Now since the spring. "The Man Who Stole A Leopard" is my jam.

MTV EMA 2011: The Streaker, The Winners' List + Lady Gaga & Adam Lambert's Performances

At last night's MTV Europe Music Awards in Belfast, Lady Gaga performed her newest single "Marry The Night" and also managed to take home four awards (for Best Song, Best Video, Best Female and Biggest Fans), the most any artist nabbed throughout the evening.



Other performers included Justin Bieber, Jessie J, Bruno Mars and Adam Lambert with Queen. Bieber, who's latest girlfriend Selena Gomez hosted this trash, took home two awards, as did Thirty Seconds To Mars and Bruno Mars.



Oh, yeah — and there was also this guy, who ran across the stage buck naked while Hayden Panettiere was trying to present. No security rushed after him? This had to be staged. Nice piece, though.



As usual, pretty much the only thing European about the MTV Europe Music Awards was the setting. Check the list of winners below.

UK Chart Roundup: Cher Lloyd Is A Colossal Flop

It's hard to believe that a song as annoying as "With Ur Love" exists, or that Max Martin had a hand in writing it, or that you could actually feel the need to strangle Mike Posner even more so than usual after hearing his nasally rap on this trash. Alas, X Factor loser Cher Lloyd's latest single is indeed real, and it goes into the UK chart at #4 this week.



Over on the album chart, Florence + The Machine's Ceremonials captures the top spot after selling about 90,000 copies in its first week. Here in the States, Sony chucked out Susan Boyle's Someone To Watch Over Me the same week as Florence's album and Justin Bieber's Under The Mistletoe, while in the UK, the label probably knew that Flo and SuBo would be too much competition for each other, and thus held Boyle over for release until this week.

Reason #247 why Rihanna is one of the coolest pop stars on the planet: she road the London Underground to her first 02 Arena gig.

"I'm going to the show with the audience, and they have no idea," she says in a video posted to her website. Sure, RiRi — that pack of burly bodyguards surrounding you is the very definition of incognito.

Can you picture Beyonce pulling this kind of stunt? She'd have to rent out the entire tube first, so no one else could ride it, and then have her handler taser any stragglers left in the station.



Naturally, "the youngsters" recognize the chart queen immediately and line up to get their pic snapped with the "We Found Love" broad. And she obliges, which once again reminds us all why Rihanna has left a trail of slain wigs in her path over the past few years.

She's now tied with Whitney Houston, who also has 11, and trails only The Beatles (20), Mariah Carey (18), Michael Jackson (13), Madonna (12) and The Supremes (12).
